Just browsing EBay - why would anyone pay almost £500 for a Leica lG - OK it looked in good condition but this model has NO Rangefinder and NO viewfinder
It came with a 50mm/f2 Summicron and 50mm finder - but presumably it is not the most convenient Leica to use?

It's more of a collectable than a user. People tend to pay more if it is collectablel.

I sure wish that I could have a Ig--it is really the single best looking LTM camera Leica made (the Standard/A comes in a close second).

That said, it would seem to be rather unwieldy in that it doesn't have an integral viewfinder. Scale-focusing wouldn't be difficult with wide lenses (think Voigtlander), but with longer lenses an accessory rangefinder would sure add volume to the camera.

Pacific Rim notes that only 5698 copies of the Ig were produced. If that doesn't make it a production-level collectible I really don't know what will.

I coudn't think of a cooler scale focus camera ... except maybe my 1a ... but that 1g doesn't even have a viewfinder ... talk about minimalism!

Strangely enough, this concept persists to the present day!
I wish I could think of a good reason I need one...

For a half-eviscerated IIIg, it sure looks top-heavy. If the profile were lower, I'd grab one in a minute: external VF, scale focus, and wide angle work fine for me.

Even at US$1,000 (OK with a good piece of glass)
