............... You make an excellent point, .................... I need to keep this in mind. ..............
Gary: I am aware that people select lenses for many different reasons. I was just trying to point out that if your reason was to take good photos, that any of the current offerings will do the job. They are all so good that it does not make a difference.

Ellisson, here is a test for you. Look at the 35 photos here.
Bob, that's a great series. Unless you're a wizard of the street, I'd guess those 35 are the best of many hundreds of frames. Aside from the amazing documentary photography represented here, my hat is off to you for your editing skills!

... though I only have the Elmarit Would love having the Cron for use on my M8.
I wouldn't. The elmarit is small and that's a huge plus in my book. It's also excellent. I have a Canon that's also nice, in some situations it can actually be preferred. But the elmarit can do everything.

Ari, the way I shoot and edit is not complicated. Three years ago, after my first two week trip to Cuba, I had a selection of 35 photos.
For three years, over nine more trips, I only photograph scenes that I think will have potential to displace an existing photo so that I can include the new one. Not add to the total but replace one of the previous best. After every trip, I will only keep those photos that I am willing to give up a previous one to include.
Photos rated #36 through about something like #5,000 all share the same fate, they didn't make the cut. No one cares how good or how bad they were. You just have to accept when shooting and editing that 1 usable photo and 99 that are real stinkers is better than 100 that are all just pretty good.

I am super happy with my non asph 28 2.8 v4
same here, this lens hardly comes off my M8

Summicron Asph.
I find the elmarit very sharp but clinical. The bokeh is also better on the summicron, albeit price is almost double.

Northernlights, thanks for sharing these 28 f2 images. Were these taken with the summicron asph or elmarit asph?

I don't have an M8, but I understand that the image quality at higher ISOs is not that great.
If so, then (for me), I would lean towards one of the faster lenses (28/2 Summicron or the CV Ultron), or the CV 28/1.9.
The small size of the 28/2.8 Elmarit ASPH would be nice, but really the 28/2 Summicron is what I would call a surprisingly compact lens (I use one on film Leicas).

Helen: Thanks. It is better for me to keep things as simple as possible. So I will head out the door in the morning with just a pocket full of film and body with 28mm lens. No bag to get in the way. Never stop to swap lenses. Just shoot.
The 28mm field of view puts me close to whoever I am photographing. That seems to build some sort of relationship which hopefully comes through in the photos. Plus that FOV allows me to include some of the environment in the frame. That seems to put the photo into some context.

Bob, I remember looking at your photos few years ago and it was definitelly a big source of inspiration for me. Keep up a good work mate.
