Leica M-E

Mine took 4 months to fix, not 4 weeks. After owning it for only 8 months.
And that was before the initial announcement of the issue.

So, yeah, so much for fretting.

Imagine how much longer it'll take to have it fixed now that Leica established there's an issue. And think of the galleries that turned down pictures taken with the damaged sensor. "Sorry, sir, you are very talented, but your sensor is all terribly delaminated. We think pictures of cats taken with newer cameras will sell better."

Seriously, upon return of the fixed camera, I would immediately list it for sale for $13.99, you know, before used prices get any worse.

You cannot take photos to hang in a gallery if your camera is at Leica NJ for 4 months.

If you don't think photos are effected by a delaminated/corroded sensor, well...

After a few email exchanges with the seller, I've changed my mind and ordered the ME. I'll have two years warranty and if and when sensor problems arise within or outside the warranty period, Leica will replace the sensor for free. As a dedicated Epson R-D1 shooter I hope that the M-E will give me comparable results for some years to come.

How long can Leica finance free sensor replacements? I suspect when a new model is launched they will find the sensor cannot be improved not to fail and remaining 240 stock will be the offer. Not saying the offer will not be generous but it will involve spending. I have never found buying a problem I know about in advance has had a happy ending.
A used 240 from a dealer can easily come with a 12 month warranty, that sounds risk free to me.
Your call is different, so be it, I hope you are lucky and all ends well.

I do hope you have many, many years of service from the M-E. I loved my M9 and the images it helped produce.

The ME is a terrific camera. Had one for more than a year and a half and it's been the most fun I've had with a camera. Incredible resolution and unmatched colors. Always prefer it to my A7. In fact, I like it so much, half a year ago I got the Monochrom.

This hysteria over sensors is ludicrous. If it breaks, have it fixed. 4 weeks turn around and it's free. You get the camera to take gorgeous pics with it, not to fret over whether there are microbe droppings in the upper left corner.

+1 Some buy gear to shoot, some buy gear and fret. Leica did a sensor swap for me in about 6 weeks at the beginning of the year. I didn't fret, I shot other gear, hardly noticed the time.
