this news is interesting ALSO if they put back the film advance lever on...heck, you could even put back the cloth shutter and 1/1000th speed and i wouldnt mind.... oh, maybe replace the sensor with film and.....

Epson botched the pricing, though. :roll eyes:

It's a nice design, and has some great qualities. There are some omissions that betray the significant improvement made by addition of an ISO wheel: no exposure compensation with AE, no strap lugs (why not add the Leica T style strap system to keep the design clean?), no socket for cable release, no way to format the SD card that I can see. You could add indicators of battery level and memory card free capacity on the body to the list. (No idea whether there is some new info in the viewfinder.)

Fix all that and I think you have a production camera that will sell pretty well (for a given price point). Even then a complete lack of any screen or readout is perhaps not the right target. If you look at the Epson R-D1 interface without the LCD screen it lacks two basic things that are necessary or useful in a digital camera: way to format the SD card and way to read the histogram. The exact histogram readout it not necessary for many applications, but some information such as clipping remains useful. Top plate screen or a smaller back screen could be utilized. One option is using a round screen in the middle of the ISO wheel. Where Epson has Leica beat are the beautiful dials that give you lots of information with a quick glance.

In summary, this is a nice limited edition camera that could be made Leica-level mass-market friendly with a few modifications. Give me one, and I'll shoot it. 🙂

I really like the "idea" of the camera (digital Leica M with no LCD), but hate the execution. Personal opinion, it's ugly, and it doesn't have a classic Leica look from the front without the illumination window.

But I'm sure they will sell to all the folks that want a limited edition camera.

Funny: my Voigtländer Perkeo II has no strap lugs either, yet is very nice to use anyway.

I agree with this camera philosophically. The lack of the LCD is something I would find useful, knowing no manufacturer would ever make such a camera. I see it as less distraction. Then again, I'm looking for a digital camera as close to the film experience as possible.

It's a shame the price is astronomical. Leica has my attention with this idea.

why put ugly straps lugs on a $22000 investment which will likely never take a pic?

some people have $ to burn and don't care,

but as soon as the slightest wear shows up on a Leica M60, it will likely take a 40 to 50% drop in value - as it then will be competing in the Leica collector after market against

more desirable M60 cameras that are UNUSED!

Is Leica still running ala carte for the M240? If so, it would far more cost effective just to have a M240 made the Burger King way just the way you want it.

I thought that this was just a joke. Then I woke up this morning and it was all over the bloody news.

I sort of get the point of a digital camera sans digital display. But I tell you blokes honestly, that is one butt ugly camera. Just look at it. Only clowns would buy that. And it is more expensive?

I like the way the guy in the video places the camera face up to allow maximum dust exposure for the sensor and then uses nice linty gloves to put the lens on. Nice camera, but I think watches are a better bet if you are in the market for expensive jewellery that has some functionality.

I'm hoping a camera just like the M 60 goes into real production. If it does and you can just buy the body I'm in...
