Leica M Monochrom: best pics

^^Now that seems to me an obscure location! Road access from the rest of the US only through Canada... In that one respect it's like Alaska, only a bit smaller. 😀 Haven't been there for a long time. Really nice shot of the beach and sky.

Thank you Doug. Point Roberts (sometimes called Point Bob in these parts) is quite lovely and with some nice architecturally done homes. That said, there is little other draw there for the hassle to get there at least for US residents dealing with the extra border crossing. No lodging for tourists other than a couple gig B&Bs and restaurants that are there currently, are sadly not a draw. There is a resort planned to go in that will possibly change that over the next decade if it is successful.

Testing out an awesome new (to me) combo -- the 246 with the Camcraft Z-Housing (the Norman Goldberg-modified Visoflex III), plus the super-sweet 12.5cm f/2.5 Hektor lens, and a Leitz filter turret (takes the place of the OUBIO) with a Series VI Leitz yellow filter. Whew! Shot at f/2.8, ISO 500.

Millie the Cat was only too happy to oblige.

Many thanks! I think the results from this rig are pretty good too 🙂

I did a bit of a seat of the pants test with the regular Visoflex III and the Camcraft Z-Housing, and there is very little difference in image quality between the two. The Visoflex images are a hair sharper, but really I think you only see it upon very close inspection. The convenience and ease of use of the Camcraft outweighs any negligible loss of image quality.

The filter turret is super-cool. Only negative that I see is that the shortest focal length you can use with it is the 12.5cm Hektor, but since it’s meant to replace any lens that uses the OUBIO mount, that’s what I’m stuck with (although I’m not complaining too much, as the 12.5cm Hektor is a great lens). You can use either 43mm filters or Series VI with the adapters (which came with the unit I have). Currently I have a light yellow, orange and UV/IR cut filters in there, seems to be a good combination.

I seem to be buying up all the neglected and overlooked Leica goodies!

Hi Robert. I just checked out your excellent website, and remembered viewing it before. Maybe we talked photography on JGF...

Anyway, I joined here back in 2013, but never got a rangefinder until now - the Monochrom 1, in fact I only got it a few days ago, so I'm still getting used to it.

I've coveted a Leica Monochrom since they came out, and thanks to a pension coming good, I have managed to buy one second hand. Now I'm quite skint again, all I could afford for a lens was the 7Artisans 50mm f/1.1, bought from here https://35mmc.com/shop/product-brands/7artisans/ but it turns out to be a very decent lens, designed for the Leica.

I'd never had a rangefinder before, so need to practice focussing, aligning the two images in the viewfinder. This morning I thought I'd get some practice in while out in our garden. Suddenly this cat appeared, and started walking towards me. That was a real challenge for keeping in focus. I aimed as best I could for the eyes, took about eight shots (at f/1.7), which this is the best of:

The world can't have enough good cat photos (Lord knows I try my best!). Nice capture.
