One of my all-time favorite jazz pieces - we need another Mingus among us.

His re-harmonization of the 12-bar really is brilliant. I was fortunate to hear him conduct his big band at Newport in NY- Alice Tully. They did charts from Let My Children Hear Music, and at one point feeling the saxophone solo extended beyond a pass through the form, he actually walked over to Bobby Jones with the score. 🙂

His live in Montreux '75 of Goodbye Pork Pie (for me especially Pullen's solo) is wonderful.
