Beautiful!!!!

This thread just keeps delivering. Between this and the hanoi pictures thread, makes this one of my favorite forums of any kind on the interwebs.

Just curious though for all of you Monochrom (MM or M246) users; How often do you find yourselves using color filters? I seem to remember a lot more folks using red and orange filters earlier in the life of this thread, but now I see that mentioned much less often. If anything it seems to be a yellow filter here or there. Or maybe it's just people not mentioning color filter in the description.

Asking because I may have a 246 headed my direction... 😀

I have the MM and do use a couple of color filters on occasion. I am happy with the results with and without the filters, a lot can be managed in post processing.

I am sure you will enjoy the 246 when it is in your hands!

Not sure about the highlight recovery of the M246 but the as it is well known for the MM, exposing for the highlight and checking the histogram is essential. A yellow filter helps to boost contrast a little but almost essential when photographing in high contrast light situations to protect the highlights. Otherwise you need to underexpose too much. That said I have a yellow filter on almost all my lenses that I use on the MM.

I've been given the opportunity to test drive the SL for the next two weeks, and compare it to the Monochrom 246. I'm heading to New Mexico tomorrow for two weeks, so it will be the perfect opportunity.

One of the reasons why I am considering the switch is the ease with which the SL focuses the 0.95 Noctilux (even with a brief test at home it's better than the Monochrom). Here again, I'm just testing the waters, and these next two weeks will help determine if I am going to make the move or not. I can keep one or the other - not both.

Part of the arrangement is that I write a blog post on my dealer's website (Sam Shoshan/Classic Connection), and post comparison photos.

Gotta say, for the few hours that I've had it so far, it's a heck of a camera. The body is like the T (made from a solid block of aluminum), and it definitely feels quality (it's about 90 or so grams heavier than the Monochrom 246). Feels really nice, and the EVF is great. I'm sure it has more features than I will ever need, but I'll be definitely familiarizing myself with the camera (and the 130 page instruction manual!) on my four-hour flight.

Have a great trip. I am jealous. Would love to get out to NM for a couple of weeks. Yes I have read it is a great camera and probably for the type of work you do maybe a good choice.
