Thankfully, my family escaped the Tykocin Pogrom as they emigrated to the US prior to WWII. I may have had one family member go through Auschwitz, but as the story goes, he escaped thanks to a bribe of a diamond from his wife's engagement ring. Though I've never been able to verify that story.
Regardless, it was a very moving trip for me. There were certain areas we visited I most certainly could not bring a camera to my eye.
As to relevancy, one reason I feel compelled to travel, especially on trips like this one, is to search for perspective. Returning home from a trip I'm always humbled by how fortunate and blessed we are and how things that are seemingly so important and can cause so much drama, are just insignificance.
