Leica M Monochrom: best pics

Love the first one Vince. Galisteo, has a certain Don Quixote feel to it.
Great atmospheric, close up concert shots Fabio.

I was a little further away... Sarah Vaughan Celebration, NJ PAC last night.
Dianne Reeves, Sheila Jordan (88!) Christian McBride, Lisa Fischer

Thanks Klaus - I was shooting the wall of the cemetery and out of nowhere this person came riding along. Took about 4 shots, that one above was the best one.

I'm out in New Mexico again (drove out from Baltimore this time), and working off my laptop. Hopefully these shots aren't too dark like they normally are when I'm working remotely!

I haven't explored the Southwest, your shots really make me want to go there, Vince.
I especially like "Cecilio, Wagon mount". Excellent focal choice, beautiful blurry background and just one visible eye below his base cap is the icing. Usually this doesn't work on purpose with the RF parallax, so taking a couple of shots moving ever so slightly and check afterwards for the best shot ... how did you approach this scene / him, if you don't mind spilling your beans😉?

Thanks Klaus -- every time I come out here (I'm in Oklahoma right now) I'm always amazed. This is my third visit this year - hopefully someday I'll be able to stay for good 🙂

As far as the photo of Cecilio goes, it was late in the day in Wagon Mound, NM, and as I was pulling into town I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed the fantastic sky (that shot 'Coming Home' in a recent post). I pulled of to the side of the road across from Cecilio's property (he was sitting in his truck talking with someone in another truck). I waved to them and told them that I was just taking a photo of this incredible sky, they smiled and kept on with their conversation. I wandered down the road, took my photos, and on my way back to my truck, Cecilio was still sitting there in his truck (the other fellow had gone). I walked over to him, we chatted for a few minutes and then I asked if I could take his picture. He said sure, didn't seem to mind, and so I took about 7 shots. With each shot I kept backing up and backing up. I think I could have backed up a bit more to get the entire window frame of the driver's door. I used a 50/1.4 Summilux and it was set to f/2 (or was it f/2.8?). Not as happy with that lens as I thought I'd be - I'm thinking of going back to a Summicron.

If you dont mind me asking, what are you disliking about the summilux or wanting back from the summicron?

Sure - I'm not really pleased with how it performs wide open. Basically it's not sharp. Now, it could be my particular lens and maybe I need to send both it and my camera body to Leica to be 'mated' (or maybe I'm expecting too much of this lens), but the lens doesn't really start to get tack-sharp until about f/2.8. It could also be that I'll focus on a point, but when I reframe that point it goes out of focus (I had the same issue with my 0.95 Noctilux). With the Summicron that I had, at f/2 it was guaranteed sharp. Didn't have to resort to using my EVF - it was utterly confidence-inspiring. So that's why I'm thinking of going back.

Keep smiling ... the only option right now, I guess 😉

ref. "Keep rocking down the highway" & "Drivin' my life away".
You have a sense to anticiapte great shots and be at the right place at the right time. Great work.

Thanks Klaus -- guess it's just dumb luck 🙂

Almost home from my long drive -- hope to be back out West soon.
