... As the sport continues, the interesting question becomes "How low will M9 and M9P prices go?"
I don't think live view will be the trigger for the bottom falling out of the M9/P market. The M9s will hold their value at least as well as the M8s have, which is pretty good; used ones have already come down from retail quite a bit.
As for putting SLR lenses on an M10 - you'd have to be pretty bored to do that, IMO. I just can't see M10 owners out there buying up old Konica or Security camera lenses to put on a Leica. That will likely remain in m4/3s territory. Though, maybe it will be AF and can take S2 lenses....

There are a lot of M10 rumors out there, all of which are predicted to be settled one way or the other at or before September 18th at Photokina in Cologne Germany (Newbies: Photokina is the world's largest photo show and takes place every two years in Cologne).
Better sensor, more pixels, better ISO, better color etc. Yawn. predictable with every upgrade of every digital camera.
The M10 RANGEFINDER GAME CHANGER (if it happens) is LIVE VIEW.
Why?
Live view means that you can focus practically every SLR lens ever made on your M10's LCD or digital accessory viewfinder via the appropriate adapter (like these). How cool! For me that means an M10 will be usable not only with Leica Screw Mount and Leica M lenses, but also with my many Nikon F, Canon FD, Pentax S, Pentax K, Exakta, Olympus OM, Konica AR, and 2 1/4 lenses! Not to mention classic Nikon and Zeiss Contax rangefinder lenses!
But wait, like the classic TV sales pitch, that's not all!
Live View on the M10 means that for the FIRST TIME EVER for a rangefinder CLOSE UPS ARE EASY! Imagine adding a close up filter to your favorite M lens and focusing macro. Or using macro lenses from your favorite SLR!
Yes, the M10 is going to be expensive, but it will also be a rangefinder game changer IF it does have LIVE VIEW as so many predict. The dumping of all those M9 and M9P on the marketplace before their value drops even more once the M10 starts shipping is not a coincidence. As the sport continues, the interesting question becomes "How low will M9 and M9P prices go?"
Keep a look out for some pretend Rangefinder expert latching onto this rangefinder game changer like they realized it and wrote about it before anyone else. Its pretty hazardous out there in media rangefinderland. The other day I read the editor of a large successful UK Photo magazine proclaiming that the Fuji X-Pro100 is a rangefinder camera! LOL. No wonder newbies are confused.

Don't agree.
1) if I need a body to mount my other lens, why bother to spend 7K uSD? I have dozens of avaible bodies.
2) close focus? If I need it, I will go for a SLR.
A leica M is not designed to do above tasks. They are not the best to do them.

I can imagine Live View being very useful with wide lenses.
But for SLR lenses, I'd throw in $500 for a 5D, then a couple of adapters. Hurrah for the game changer from 2005!
I can understdand, though, that someone would burn $6000+ for the portability gained when adapting huge SLR lenses to a M instead of a DSLR body.

What is a hypothetical user who wouldn't buy this before but will now?
I'm sure I'm an anomaly here, but I shoot a lot of manual focus live-view video for my job, with all sorts of glass. In fact I never use my DSLR for stills, I much prefer a rangefinder for that, especially in low light. I tend to leave my rangefinders at home, though, when I have video to shoot, and I hate that. This hypothetical M10 could take care of all my needs.

I'm holding onto my M9 for now.. rumors are telling me I may regret selling my M9.

I don't think this rumor includes an M10 with video, just live-view for framing & focusing still shots. I might be wrong though.

What my little bird told me is that M10 will no longer have the traditional optical viewfinder, but an EVF to support longer tele lenses also.
I certainly hope so. Not because I care how the camera works but because of the wildly amusing howls of outrage it will provoke from certain hide-bound reactionaries.

I am amazed that it may happen.
Reality check! In a few months or at most a year, from now, as a result of sales falling with "conventional digital cameras" vs "phone cameras, we shall see cheaper Full Frame DSLR or Mirror-less boxes.
The thought of using in full frame all my old lenses from Canon FD, Nikon, Pentax and K-Mounts truly fun. Only problem there is no way in hell, i can afford it. Nor would i bother! Presently i can afford a DSLR for under $600 and adapters are cheap. Only not full frame..
All the old lenses and bodies? i refuse to sell working equipment for pennies. i am a bad loser!

oh man, the head bartender is probably just starting rumours so he can move a bunch of inventory that likely hasn't ever sold. Can't believe this discussion ever started. Shame on all of you for feeding this.

So, another CMOS camera, but with the latest Maestro processor, electronic frame lines, 'M' mount and weak, or absent AA filter. I'm guessing that they will work some magic to make many want to shell out the big money.

My Nex7 does all of the above, only it's not full frame. But probably one tenth the cost and very similar or equally excellent quality. Good enough for me and those who buy my work.

If Leica loads his new digital M with features every other digital Camera or phone already has for years there is NO reason left to buy a Leica M. A Leica M is about simplicity and rangefinder composing and focussing.

No interest at all. It is quite possible Leica will offer an APS-H EVIL camera next year that will take M lenses and thus all R glass as well (and any other DSLR.) An integrated solution is bound to be far more effective than a stick-on EVF.

Leica say "Viso-flex" about the X2's EVF. Nothing new under the sun."Electronic Visoflex" says it pretty succinctly....
