Leica M10 Live View - the most Exciting M10 Rumor

Game changer or not, most people will not have the money to buy this camera.

Most people don't have the money to buy any new Leica product. Luckily for Leica this makes their products even more desirable for those that can afford them! :D

As for live view I see it as a huge advantage for critical focusing when you have a lens that back or front focuses slightly.

The burning question is, how much more for these innovations? Not that I'm in the market for such a camera.

Ho hum

Ho hum

Sounds like it will just become like any other m43rds camera. Boring.

right on, Viktor. with live view, the camera ceases to be a rangefinder. may as well buy a Nikon D800 or whatever for a lot less $$$

it ain't gonna happen but I wish Leica would go the OTHER way. make the M1x LESS digital. get rid of the LCD, buttons, etc.

ho hum. although I wouldn't mind an M9-P for about $4000

Cheap SLR lenses on an M10?

That'll put Leica's lenses business in the toilet! Almost anything is cheaper than a Leica lens!

They must be mad:eek::eek: Unless... it's WRONG!

:D

.....

How does it quit being a rangefinder when all Leica is adding a CMOS sensor which offers live view?

If the rumors are correct, the camera can still function as an M9 but now you can focus through the LCD or optional EVF too.

On my GXR I don't have to use the LCD for anything as I shoot through the EVF. If it had a rangefinder focusing mechanism I would't be using the LCD either.

So you're saying even if the M10 still has the rangefinder focusing mechanism by adding live view its no longer a rangefinder?

But without a decent accessory EVF it's not practical. I don't see people with M10s holding them at arms length with an SLR lens mounted ... like some tourist with a pocket digicam! :D

I don't think they'll be offering an optional EVF ... live view is quite likely though IMO.

Why wouldn't the EVF being sold as an option for the new Leica X2 fit on the M10 if the leaked M10 photo is real?

Do wide angle M9 shooters use the optional optical view finders on top the camera to properly frame their shots? An EVF and live view provides another solution to wide angles, tele's and focus shift for such lenses as the Zeiss 50mm Sonar.

Lots of SLR lenses can already be used on full frame live view cameras....

All this means is that Leica is catching up to 2009, I hope they also update the LCD to something that is industry-leading, and have a state of the art EVF - not just putting a Leica logo on an Olympus EVF and charging triple. :)

The price needs to be no more than $6k, and the M9 and M9P and M9M should all be dropped in price to about $4k.

No, none of this will happen. :)

I just can't see a company like Leica being comfortable with people using budget SLR lenses on their flagship digital rangefinder! :D

As Stephen said though the adapters are available and it will happen if the M10 offers these options.

I am personally not too excited about these "features" as each camera I own, I use because of their own personalities. When I use a Leica M (whether film or digital), I like the involvement I have with the photographic process - knobs and dials, click stops and not button clicks. The finder is uncluttered. It has the same feel as a heavy analog watch, if that makes sense.

If I want to do macro work, take a stroll with my kids, or need autofocus - the OM-D gets some use. I suppose if I shot longer tele lenses, an SLR or EVF would do better than the M9 too.

In other words, I don't mind having different cameras for different uses. I don't necessarily want my Leica M to do what a Canon/Nikon DSLR can do. I like choosing what camera will come with me when I leave the house, and doing what each camera does best, working within each camera's limitations and using each one strengths. It makes for me, a more enjoyable experience taking photographs.

Do you think they have the same "uncomfortable" feelings about those of us that use their lenses on non Leica bodies? :D

I'm sure they do and if they could find a legal way of stopping us they would! :p

More realistically ... like most manufacturers, once they've got your money do they really care? :D

That's just what I was thinking. But the sort of clientelle their marketing is aimed at will probably buy leica lenses anyway so maybe its targetted ( if it happens ) at the enthusiast who may be tempted just because it has the potential.

Not at all. It would be a 100% rangefinder with an optional EVF when we need to do macro or telephoto. Just an electronic Visoflex to replace the old one but otherwise the same good old rangefinder we all like. Best of both worlds. Hopefully...

"Electronic Visoflex" says it pretty succinctly, nice. I think I want one of these.

What user would 'live view' be a game changer for? I understand that it can be a useful feature, but I'm trying to imagine which user would not buy an M9 but would buy an M10 based on this feature? What actually changes in the game?

Would this sway people who didn't buy an M9? I'm not sure how. And, the people who did buy an M9... is this for them?

Maybe. I just thought of one specific user this could be targeted to: The user with a ton of disposable income who had top of the line Nikon or Canon, never had a rangefinder but got an M9 and a 50mm 'cron because he/she heard it was what the real badasses used, but then discovered rangefinder photography was too hard! They might be suckered.. I mean, tempted to get something that they heard would be easier to use.

But if that's the draw, I would guess a 10K auto-focus camera would be a better lure for that user.

OK, I'm stumped. What's the "user story" for this feature? What is a hypothetical user who wouldn't buy this before but will now?
