Leica M10 Monochrom picture leaked online

Here's my ranking of the best to worst looking front decorations:

1. Small screw
2. Dot in matching color
3. Standard red dot
----------------------------------------
4. Large flat screw
5. Large domed screw
6. Large red dot

I'd avoid everything under the dotted line. There's something not right about me...err...I mean them. ;)

I like the screw on my M2. I can see how the much larger one on the M10 Monochrom is less appealing. I don't see why it needs to be so big. It does need to be there, though. It's for access to the rangefinder vertical adjustment. It's not the adjusting screw proper. You remove it to get to the adjustment.

Maybe Leica will read this, and correct their mistake before they make too many of them. Then the early copies can rate a high collector's price.

My Fourp has a screw. It's never bothered me. I suppose I should unscrew it sometime, and do some adjusting.

If you ever remove the domed screw on an earlier Leica to adjust the rangefinder, make sure you keep the lens on: it gets very tiny when it’s off and could easily fall into the camera. The M10M is likely an improvement even from the maintenance point of view.

  • I like the stealth and profile of the black buttons
  • Unless it's the lighting/shadows or camera angle, the lines in the M10-M top-plate (below the rangefinder windows) seems a bit more defined/angular than the rounded profile of the Typ 246
  • No strap protectors on the top-plate
  • THAT SCREW!
I'm sticking with my M6 :)

I propose an a-la-carte screw-head selector on the Leica webpage...

It looks amazing. I do still wish that Leica would build a monochrome sensor camera with a 4 or 5 stop nd filter array over some of the sensor pixels to increase the highlight exposure range. Cameras can process the rgb input from bayer filter sensors so it should be trivial to implement, but it hasn’t been done. There are still plenty of situations where the highlight rendition and/or the way highlights blend to pure white is a lot less nice than it was on film.

Marty,

This is a great idea. I imagine the highlights to be fluffy and smooth like in film with a wonderful roll off.

Having that level of control in the highlights would be a great asset. With a high mega pixel camera with pixels to spare mucho more dynamic range.

THIS WOULD BE A VERY BIG ADVANCE.

Maybe it's the rangefinder adjustment screw. I wonder how much the accessory Leica screwdriver is - $1500 for the silver and $2500 for the black titanium?

It's an extra $500 for the "pre-brassed" slotted screwdriver point.

You might want to remove the lens before tossing that MA. It's still good. You could use it on a Good body if you happen to find one.

Er. Last post was for Huss. We was about to throw away a perfectly good lens. .......several posts ago.

R,

I understand. One bad screw ruined his camera. LOL.

BTW the a la cart screw chart is amazing. What will they think of next?

It was good. But it was contaminated by attaching it to a camera with an ugly screw.
So in the trash it went.
