Leica M10 or SL?

I`m scaling down my gear.
My Canon lenses have gone apart from the 70-200/2.8 and my prime body now is the A7R2 .

I`ve invested in two Batis lenses for it and am very pleased with both weight, image quality and focus speed.

The A7R2 also continues to serve as a digital back for my leica lenses although I`ve recently been impressed by the CL .
Handled one in Leica Manchester with a 35 Summicron asph and it felt compact and balanced .
That and reading Godfrey`s posts re the CL make me think that could be a better digital solution for my manual Leica glass sometime in the future.

Know it is best to not fully deplete the batteries, nor is it best to fully charge them. Always store them with a charge. If you can charge to 80% to preserve longest battery life.

Interesting to note that someone I know has a BMW electric car and they recommend charging to only 80%, unless you need the extended range of a full charge.

My SL is getting up there with age. The Leica charger has an LED that indicates 80% charge if I choose to go the extended battery life route.

Perhaps I'm suggesting the achillies heal of the older Leica digitals will be having working batteries.

Also know that I used the hell out of my Monochrom. The edges are silvering where my hands have worn away the anodize, and before I sent my MM to Leica for sensor replacement my covering was worn smooth in some places from gripping the camera.

Your cameras might surprise you... but I also respectfully understand that sudden death also is a possibility.

There are numerous off brand batteries for Leica cameras. Someone will continue to sell batteries for the M8 and M9.

I can envision having lots of enjoyment with my Angenieux 70-210 on the SL or my Canon 85/1.2L or other lenses, but it would feel like using an slr camera.

Having the M10 gives you more options as complementary cameras.

The SL is really a auto focus digital Leica R. I’ve played with one and it feels better with R, or it’s gigantic native lenses. Just not as nice with M lenses. If the next version of the SL comes out and is smaller then maybe the M lenses would feel better.

Hi Joe,
If the main purpose is using M lenses, the M10 would be best suited.
 
My plan is then to eventually get an M10.
