I fear 'simple and clean' will make place for 'convoluted and more buttons' when video enters the M.
Yeah... I've said this before but I'm kind of expecting the worst here...

I fear 'simple and clean' will make place for 'convoluted and more buttons' when video enters the M.
Only if you have ONE additional video-start-button, like some cameras have. It would be possible to switch to video mode from the menu without an extra button.

ahh, yeah ... the beauty of the rumor: Everybody can relate to it and interpret in any way he/she wants to.
Have I missed the letter "M" and the no. "10" in the supposed Leica invitation? Ooops, then it wouldn't be a rumor anymore. Just forget about it....

I'd be surprised if the form changed much, really... I think Leica knows their market. Updated sensor and electronics, live view, and probably not much else.

Have any indication that the M10 isn't coming in September?

Sometimes, but I never let it stop me from bringing my M9 everywhere. Honestly, it's more of a philisophical choice for me... I just don't really want to use cameras that cost more than $3000 with a lens. My own little barrier I've set. Once I got the Fujifilm X-Pro1, the M9 started to get used less and less.
i tend to be in the same camp. in the past few years i have been using cheaper and cheaper cameras.
the consumer grade cameras these days or so bloody good i can't see myself needing a $2,000 plus camera ever again.
will be interesting to see what they come up with i suppose.

John, JJ,
I have a feeling that we will most likely soon see something in-between at a reasonable price as there still remains quite a price gap between the excellent X2 and the M-body while the M-body is the only interchangeable lens camera Leica makes.
CEO Albert Schopf said the same: ""We are at the borderline of compact-system cameras already, with the Leica X1 and Leica M-System, and it's pretty obvious that, at one point, we are going to offer something in between. But we have to look very carefully into what sensor parts we are using and what features we are offering."
Daniels, I think, also said something about the M-concept becoming the basis for a myriad of products. Why could one of these not be an aps-c M8.3?
I don't begrudge anyone from using anything they like, but I feel the same...the quality of the lower priced cameras is so unbelievably good...not to mention the depreciation of an M9 or M10 as one walks out the door with a new purchase is greater than the entire cost of said lower-end models.

Well, I've got my invitation, and I know there's going to be a lot there. But I also wonder where on earth these speculations spring from. I mean, speculating on the number of buttons...

I've never feared crime really, but when I went sailing with a friend last weekend and the wind was really rough, I realized that if we were to keel over, I'd lose camera and lens, and how the fear for this should not be a reason not to bring my camera to such days on the waters where I like to photograph boats and people. I doubt I'd want to bring a $7000 camera though if the possibility to lose it is far from hypothetical.

I for sure have less information than Roger ...
but to explicitly answer your question: No I don't - as much as all others have that it will be

M9 has an on/off/picture mode switch already. Wouldn't be too hard to add video as an option. No new button needed.

Haha!
Good point. But without speculation and rumors the internet would fill up with boring things like….. Facts.

At least they are obviously polarizing and that is a sure thing to get some attention...Or we could complain about how awful Hipstamatic shots are.

Good luck to leica, I'm keeping with my old M9 until it gets nice and brassy! Previous poster mentioned being too worried about using such an expensive camera I can't believe anyone would spend so much on a camera and not get insurance. For my three canon 1d series cameras, L lenses etc, M9 and three M lenses it costs me around £30 a month and thats for professional use including in the boot of my car.

That's the purpose of insurance. Mine covers all situations for loss or damage, including my own stupidity, with no deductible and an automatic increase in value up to 150% (with no increase in premium) if replacement prices rise over time. To cover near $25k in gear, I spend just over $300 annually, less than the cost of my film and materials in the old days. No-brainer.

Which insurer do you use?

A rider to my premium home policy with Chartis. Years ago, I had a similar rider to a Masterpiece policy with Chubb.

Chartis rocks. Difficult policies to get, but if you lose an engagement ring at the beach, as a for instance, they will take divers and metal detectors out there to look for it. They're not about just replacing cash value. They want you to have the stuff back that means a lot to you. And I don't say this just because they are one of my ad agency's clients
Thanks Jeff.
