I like the original strap on my M2 but its starting to crack so at the moment I have a plain black Luigi Leicatime strap but was wondering if anyone makes replica Leica M2/3 straps?
Thanks.

I'm curious about this too. I've thought of taking mine to a local leather worker to copy. I wouldn't even care about the length being adjustable if I could have one made the same length as mine.

It really should be fairly simple except for the pad.

I'm not aware of anyone making replica straps but why not buy a real one? Have you checked Ffordes?

Edit: This reliable Dutch seller has this strap for sale (but object is located in Poland). But perhaps it's the wrong strap.

Philip, your link is for nylon modern Leica strap.
Fraser, as he wrote "starting to crack", I think that he means leather strap.

I use some modern Leica strap, leather and nylon for my cameras that need them.
They are as nice (even more flexible) as older leather strap from the 60's that get old and cracking.

The one I've got is an original, I just feel when original ones are costing £50 or more and have either been well used or coiled up in a box for 40 years meaning the leather is not really in the best of condition.
Cheers.

Hi,

Once upon a time, all cobblers (shoe repairers) could duplicate straps and repair leather luggage etc.

They might just be easier to trace. I've had studs and straps and so on replaced on old ERC's by them.

BTW, the original straps shown in the catalogue seem very easy to duplicate, I'll wish you luck.

Regards, David

I don't know if OP means exact replicas, but I make all of my own thin leather straps from easily-obtained materials from Tandy leather. The only piece that is hard to buy is the buckle-slide, and for that I buy old thin nylon Nikon straps and salvage the sliders from those, two per strap. So all of my Leica "replica" straps say "NIKON" on them. 🙂
