I have way to many Leica M cameras. Thinking about selling a Leica M2 matt black repaint over 1million serial number in perfect shape, with self timer. I have no idea the possible value of this camera. It was done by Horst Wenzel in Vancouver Canada. He is a Leica trained technician, he did a full CLA and stripped it down to paint it black. He used military grade paint and heat cured it before assembly.

Please let mw know your thoughts?

Thanks

Depending on where you got it repainted, and if you have the supporting document for it. For example, Kanto repaint probably will worth more than, say, Masa Saita or Shuiedo (because of reputation and quality of workmanship) and Shintaro or CRR Luton repaint may worth more than Kanto (because of rarity). Just my 2 cents.

Really depends on how well the camera presents. Is the paint absolutely flawless? And of course, how good is the viewfinder, RF patch, curtains, and all the usual mechanics and feel.

I've sold many black paint Ms, done by me, as well as others. Haven't sold one lately but I would suppose it would demand a significant premium depending on the quality of the paint.

Agree, that a Shintaro would arguably be worth more, to knowledgeable Leicaphiles of the last 20 years, if it's still pristine, but he's not painted in a long time and may not be well known for it anymore. Is his website still up?

Kanto, Cameraworks-UK would probably demand the highest for current suppliers.

Horatio gives you your best answer, IMO, in post#5, to check eBay completed sales.

Think I would list it for $2500. Tamarkin is showing chrome M2's for $1500-1900. I just spent $3000 on a mint black chrome 50 anniversary M4 from Classic Camera. Or ask $3000 but state you are willing to bargain.

Bought a kanto repaint from this forum like 4 months ago for 2k. Been with DAG for 3 months. I miss it a lot and cannot wait to get it back.

$2k sounds about right for a repaint.... Good score on the anniversary M4 ktmrider!

Yes, the M4 was mint and comes with a working MR meter but I am not sure if I trust the meter yet. I have been in Anchorage about a month and the M4 and MP240 came along.

Have been using the M4 outside in temperatures ranging from 10 degrees above to minus 5 and it has not missed a beat (did not think it would) as I have used Leica's up here for years. I have hesitated to take the MP240 our when it goes below zero.

Have a nice M2 and 3f in Texas (going back to Texas next week to help daughter move) and I will be back in Anchorage for a few more months. I may sell the MP240 and just go back to film. Honestly, if I had not just purchased the M4 about two months ago I would PM and buy this M2. I go round and round as to the M2 or M4 being my favorite film M. And now I think I own too many film bodies but this is not the first time I have been in this situation .
