Hello everyone,

I've recently started in rangefinders and had gotten myself 2 Leica bodies

A well used M4-P and a M2 which I suspect has not been in use for quite a long time.

I was trying out the speeds on both bodies when my M2 shutter would not release and the shutter curtain seemed abit crumpled, like it had jammed halfway through. (this was during a 1 second exposure)

Would it be because the lubrication in my M2 had dried up and thus caused the jam? Should I send it for a full CLA?

Thank you!

Welcome to rangefinders. Leica M's are wonderful cameras but even they need service now and then. You probably need to send your M2 for a complete service, which is not inexpensive, but it should then be good for many years. Good Luck, Joe

Mechanical cameras work best if they're frequently exercised; it keeps the oil smooth and evenly distributed. If it hasn't been used in a while, a full CLA is certainly warranted. At least you'll have another body to use in the meantime.
