Hello there!

I stumbled upon a $300 m3 +summaron 3.5cm 3.5, goggles, and light meter at a local camera shop. The problem is that the shutter will need repairs. Cosmetically, it is not in the best condition either(dark spots on top place), so i'm just wondering if this would be worth it.

How much would a shutter repair usually go for?

I have always wanted to get a leica. But is the time now??? :bang: Would it be better to just buy one that has no problems??

Thanks!

Forget the problem camera. If the Summaron lens is in good shape, the $300 is a good price for the lens alone. Plan on a CLA for the old lens too. I have mine with Gus Lazzari.

Terrible terrible deal...

Where is this store again? Directions? Just curious :p

haha you should not walk, RUN back to that store. But to answer your question, the estimate for a new shutter on an m6 + CLA was about $325. Assuming that lens is in decent condition (maybe needing a cla?), $300 for both is a steal. WEll done!

I went back first thing in the morning and bought it! :D It turns out that the shutter is a bit sticky(not really that noticeable). Shutter is in great condition though! The summaron was noted with a "lens spins" problem. The aperture ring would spin on forever, and you would have to apply a bit of pressure to actually change the aperture. I ended up taking apart the lens(nothing too serious, just taking it out of its shell), and tightening a screw and everything seems to be fine now(hope i didn't mess anything up). Lens does look great too. Besides the sticky shutter problem and some oxidation, looks to be in great condition.

Will definitely be sending it in to get a CLA soon.

Thanks for all the help!
Kenny

Any time I feel like I got a good deal on my camera gear somebody has to show up and make me feel like an idiot.

Seriously though, that is an amazing find, enjoy it as much as you can!
