Leica M4-2 Shutter Release Jam

Hi, I just recently bought a Leica m4-2 off KEH, I've been shooting some test rolls through it, and have noticed that on occasion (about 3 times per roll) the shutter release won't depress.

Now I know this isn't normal, and I also know that I can have KEH repair under the 60 day warranty, but I don't want to deal with having to ship it to them and be without it for a month or more.

My questions for here are:

Have you heard of this?

If so, is it a costly repair to have done by someone down the road?

Will this cause any additional damage if left unrepaired?

I've noticed this happens to my M4-2 on occasion with some of my plastic film canisters. It happens toward the end of the roll and I have to push the film advance lever at the same time as the shutter release to take a picture.

It's annoying but it rarely happens. Not sure why...

thanks dude, i'll keep that in mind because the first two rolls i shot were bulk loaded. Shooting a storebought roll now, and can't remember if I've had it happen.

Yeah no worries. I've never had an issue with store-bought rolls. I can't recall if my metal canisters had the same issue or not...

problem persists even with storebought film, almost all but once your tip did allow me to depress the shutter release.

anyone know anything about this?

My new M4-2 just came back from tune-up at DAG, and so far, hasn't done what you are describing. Shot a 36 exp roll of Kodak XX yesterday, bulk-loaded in a metal Kodak Snap-Cap. No problems at all, so far. Will definately watch for this potential problem!

How can bulk loaded cassette v.s factory loaded film cassette have anything to do with the shutter release not being able to be depressed ?

Looks more to be a mechanical problem, like the shutter release spring needs to be adjusted for example.

Beats me. Every roll of storebought film works perfectly, but I have issues with plastic canisters. I guess it's coincidence.
