Leica M5... good choice?

In the last rolls, sometimes I'm having a problem: in the first picture I have a strange "light". Here you have one example from the same roll:

After these pictures, each photo is OK, without any problem. What can it be? Do you know? Can you help me?

they aren't consistent in shape? You're developing yourself? I'd bet that it's got to be something when loading the film into the tank.

I'm developing my film, yes. But I have developed a lot of film from my OM-1n... aqnd I have never seen anything like that before.

Well the leaks run the length of the film, which means its not coming from the shutter or the baseplate. It's possible it could be a door leak but the leak does look pretty random with little structure. Can you measure the distance between the leaks on that roll? Looks to be about 1 and a half frames. If the distance is the same as the width of the back door I'd say you found your culprit.

I've never had door leaks before though so I don't know what the shape should actually look like.

Thank you very much BLKRCAT. I will measure it and I will share my info with you. :) Thank you very much!

I have measured the distance between the two "lights" and it smaller than the door of the m5. It has 1,5 cm less than the door.

hmm... It was worth a try. Almost seemed too quick anyways. Hopefully someone else can shed some light on to the situation:cool:

I’ve seen this sometimes with my film too. SInce it only happens at the start of the roll, I think it may be some stray light leaking through the film canister opening. I reuse my film canisters so maybe the felt on them is starting to degrade a little. That’s my theory anyway...

I'll second that as the frame numbers show them to be the first ones taken.

But I don't reuse my canisters. So I think it isn't my case.

To see what is still being shot with film and an M5, check out Analogue Aquatic on the Leica Blog.

It is an Aussie shooting in the surf and ocean using Velvia and an M5 in a custom waterproof case. "The meter works every time".

Tried to post a link but could not find the actual web address.

Thanks for posting the link. I am still an analogue dinosaur when it comes to computers and internet. Not exactly how you would expect an M5 to be used.
