Hi All,

Has anybody tried the 21mm f4 Cosina Voigtlander on the Leica M5? The rear element does recede into the body a bit, although it seems like it -might- be OK.

Is there an easy way to check the clearance, without risking damaging the meter arm and cell?

Thank you for your responses!

Hello,

The 21/4 will work perfectly on your M5, i have used the CV 21/4 and 15/4,5 many times on my M5 and had never any problems with the light meter.

Best of luck.

Timo

Compare to another lens- generally, if the lens does not collapse and it uses a regular rear cap (not the deep rear cap) it should work fine.

OK, Thanks Guys!
Got some film in the M5 right now (XX) I want to use with the 21.
Good to know it works, I'll have to figure out what the spot meter covers with this -wide- lens.

Hi Dan,

I'll have to figure out what the spot meter covers with this -wide- lens.
I normally use just the 50mm framelines with good results - I have the 21/f4 on an 28/50 adapter for precisely this reason.

Thanks Philipp!
I'll try it with the next roll. BTW love M5's spot meter, which is the true reason I bought it. For use when the light is a complete guess. Very user-friendly.

EDIT: Just switched to the 50mm Leitz adapter, and it works great with the 21CV, nice trick. Taking M5 out today, with XX.
