Leica M6 allignment

I was taking pics today. I was down by the Washington Monument. I focused and the RF was off horizontally. When I got home. I measured for five feet on a tripod. I used both my Zeiss 35mm f2 ZM and Konica 50mm f2. They both focused at 5 ft. So here is my question. If they are fine at close focus (5 ft). Will I notice anything ever at infinity being out of focus even at f2?

I think I saw this at pNut too. What I asked there:

"When you say "horizontally" do you mean a horizontal line is doubled one above the other, or that a vertical line is doubled at infinity (horizontal displacement)?"

The horizontal alignment shouldn't be a big issue with focusing accuracy, especially f2 at infinity. I have an M3 that has a similar problem but the other way around; horizontal is a bit off at closer distances. With the Noctilux even, I have never had any issues. The vertical alignment is the one to be concerned about.

I am no technical guru by any means but rather just sharing what I have seen in the field and how it applies to making pictures.

If vertical alignment is off, it is off at all distances. Horizontal alignment is what changes at different distances, and for that reason is what is important in a range-finder.
