Since many years my M6 has never failed, but now it has a problem with the shutter. On the developed film, I had several unexposed or very dark frames.

After some tests, I found out, that sometimes the 2nd curtain is released at the same time together with the first curtain. This does not happen at slow speeds from 1sec to 1/15th, but from 1/30th to 1/1000 it shows this problem. And it only happens when slowly pressing the shutter knob; if I press it quickly, it works as it should.
I used the super slowmo feature my smartphone to record a video with 960fps of the shutter set to 1/50. Even at 960fps it is still blurred, but you can clearly see the difference: If I press the shutter fast, the first curtain opens, and after it is fully open, the 2nd curtain starts to move. If I press the shutter slowly, both curtains start to move at the same time.

I successfully repaired some other cameras like Rolleiflex TLR's, but never opened my M6, as it always just worked.

As the slow speeds work, it shouldn't be related to the slow gear, which would have been an easy fix, but I think I'll have to dig deeper.

Has anyone had a similar problem, or an idea what could be wrong?

Thanks,

Robert
