Found this forum two days ago and read quite a bit. This is my post here so be kind. For some unknown to me reason I got this Leica bug and have been reading about different bodies and lenses for a few months. Today I pull the trigger and got myself a Leica M6 TTL Chrome with Leica Summicron-M 1:2 / 35MM Asph Chrome and flash. Should be in my hands at latest by Saturday.

My first camera decades ago was a rangefinder, but I haven't used one for well over 25 years. I've been happily using my Canon 5D with a bunch of L glass for a while. I'm a fairly active member on photography-on-the.net forum that is dedicated to Canon equipment (mods, if there is a problem with posting a link, my apologies, and please erase it). I like eyeing Fred Miranda site as well.

Hopefully I'll get to use the Leica at least half the time as I use my Canon (it's on my every single day). Next thing will be to find a good development lab for B&W.

I guess the aforementioned post is nothing but a plead for a welcome 😀

Welcome! We'll be interested to hear your impressions and see your images with your new mechanical gear. I would bet you'll bring the Leica along even more than the 5D since it's much less obtrusive. By buying that kit, you've started the slide down the slippery slope...😉

pbjbike, I thought that Canon's L line was a slippery slop, but Leica seems like an addiction as well. I would love to test out both cameras. Until I locate a decent place for B&W development I'll try an XP2 film. Any suggestions on B&W mailing labs? Thanks.

Ah, yes, the slippery slope is much steeper with finely crafted mechanical devices, and there are a myriad of accessories and lenses in the vintage realm that prove irresistible to many here...XP2 is a good way to start, especially if you will be scanning and not doing traditional darkroom work. I have no mail order lab recommendations, but there will be several to follow for sure.

Kitchens and bathrooms work equally well. All aboard.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you bought a Leica and an ASPH Summicron and you're NOT going to develop your own film?

XP-2 is chromogenic film and uses C-41 processing. Any 1-hour place can develop it for you. Why wait on mailers etc.?

Oh, BTW, welcome to RFF!

Folks, thanks a lot for the welcome and the suggestions. macnorfin, not taking it in a wrong way at all and I understand where you're coming from. I wanted to see if "going back" to film was something that will captivate me for a while and if it indeed does then seeting up a development room will be the next step. George, C-41 is that very reason why I'm choosing that film.

Again, thanks a lot for the warm welcome and I'll share my impressions of the Leica as soon as I get it.

welcome to the melting pot of leica drool...er....use.

Please please please post us some camera porn when you get your camera, ive been eying this combination for a while and would love to see what your camera combo looks like
