Hi all, just after a bit of advice if possible.

I'm currently looking at purchasing a Leica M6 TTL 0.85 that is in mint condition, but not having the amount of money to purchase a summicron 35mm lens, I'm looking at the Summaron 35mm 3.5 lens?
Will this lens work well with the M6? or would I be better off waiting and buying a summicron?

Thanks in advance,

Harrison

I use a screw-mount version without goggles via a Voigtländer adaptor. The only difficulty is using it with my M3, as I would have to use a VIOOH. I'd still have the same problem with the 28mm f6.3 Hektor and the Zeiss 28mm f2.8 Biogon.

But with an M6 it works well.

The Summaron 35/3.5 is an incredible lens. I feel it's misunderstood or has an undeserved bad reputation. My copy is razor sharp, with a vintage look: slightly lower contrast and distinctive rendering. The tonality in black + white is just classic.

I have just come across a Summaron 35mm 2.8lens in mint condition now, which version would be better/more suited for street shooting, the summaron 35 2.8lens or 3.5lens ?

Thanks

I have both. The f3.5 results look more vintage (lower contrast, softer corners). The f2.8 looks a more modern but still has a special old-time quality look compared to a modern 35 lens.

I have the Summaron 3.5 and it's one of my sharpest lenses but least used. If i didn't have a UC-Hexanon 35mm f/2, I'd be fine with just the 3.5 Summaron. The 2.8 is an outstanding lens as well. A bit bigger too, the 3.5 is incredibly small. Both are great, neither will let you down.

Harrison,

do you wear glasses? Have you had a chance to check whether you can comfortably see the 35mm framelines with a 0.85 M6? Some people report that a standard .72 finder is better for them with a 35mm lens.
All the best, Ljós

+1 ond the difficulty of using 35mm framelines in a .85mag viewfinder with glasses!

As to which lens to get, that is totally subjective. It's like asking someone else what your favourite colour should be. These are both fine lenses that produce slightly different looking images. There is no objective "better" or "worse".

Alright then.

My eyesight is perfect and don't wear glasses, and will be mainly shooting with 35 + 50mm lenses. After reading previous posts and other forums, I am now undecided to which model M6 TTL to purchase now? Out of the three versions of the M6 TTL, 0.58, 0.72, or the 0.85, which one would be best suited for the lenses I would be using
