As the title said, two years of savings vanished today as I pushed the submit order on KEH.com. I am now waiting at the post box for my new (well actually BNG) leica m6ttl. I guess its not the most exciting news haha but as a university student money is kinda hard to come by at the moment so this purchase represents a lot of sacrifices and hard work. Also I guess this is my first proper purchase of professional grade equipment so I'm hoping i've made a fairly good investment. Sure beats paying for a Nikon d90! I can't wait to get it and will order the 40mm nokton soon so I can start taking photos!

Good for you! How long does it take for the package to get from Atlanta to NZ? I sent a box from here to Australia and if I remember right, it took a few days.

should arrive on the 5th of Dec based on what KEH said. probably a good thing that i don't have a lens for it yet, i should be writing my thesis haha.

Congratulations! It's a fine camera, and you'll enjoy it thoroughly. I know... I have two of them (got myself deeeeeeeep in debt, but it was worth it).

Two! haha man I would be sleeping under a bridge if i tried to own two. Funnily enough my classmates (armed with their d300s etc) think im absolutely mad...a film camera? no zooms!?

Their rigs will be long gone while you will be still shooting away. You will have the last laugh. I still have a Leica IIIa (circa 1936) It works perfectly.

Yeah i know, I also have a leica IIIc which got me started in rangefinder photography and as much as I love the vintage gear I always craved something a bit more predictable for photo documentary.

a m7 would have been nice but a little out of my price range, I also like the fact that the m6 is mechanical (minus the meter). It should be fun for a wedding im shooting early next year.

I should say that one of the only reasons I can afford it now is because of the strength of the NZD...its killing our export market but its wonderful if you need to buy something from the states

Congrats to you :D

I'm just a student myself but now I decided i'm going to save money for a Leica targeting an M3 with a 50mm (so about $1.2K if i'm not mistaken)
If I could save at least $5 a week it will only take me 240 weeks! :D FIGHT!

Kidding aside, congratulations once again and I hope you enjoy your M6 :D

I know exactly what you are going through, I lusted after one of those for 3 years in college and got one as soon as I graduated. I saved and saved then lost all the savings to other obligations and saved and saved and lost that money again....its maddening.

Now you have scratched the itch for the M6 its just going to start itching everywhere else....so good luck and congratulations!

i know the feelin selloutboy, I have been picking up various odd jobs etc and quietly salting it away for a rainy day. I always wanted a m6 but as i was saving I never thought I would reach my goal. Well I guess certain sacrifices pay off and it would be nice to finally own a nice setup. Now I just need to find the money for a lens, a case, some filters and film etc haha it never ends

it never ends dude but at least you are already there and i'm just about to start :(

I guess that's all part of the discipline and fun of it. If you want the best equipment then prepare to starve (or shed blood :D) for it.

Omg , so what you're saying....it...has...no........back screen?

I just love people being shocked by rangefinders.
