Leica M7 adhesive removal and Praise for John Kuo

Just got a nice M7 from RRF member John Kuo - thanks John ! - and the original plastic on the bottom has left some serious adhesive residue. Advice for removal of the adhesive ?

Maybe try some Goo Gone which can be found at hardware stores.

Either Isopropyl alcohol or Ronsonol and a very soft cloth

I would have left the protective cover on the baseplate.

I tried 91% alcohol with no luck....the plastic is damaged so I want it off. The residue is very sticky...

I've never seen a manufacturer-applied cellophane baseplate protector that left any residue at all even after many years. I have to suspect either it's not an original or someone tried to reglue the original (once you peel it it doesn't restick well). Nail polish remover (acetone) on a cloth should get it off and won't harm the silver or black chrome (it will take off black enamel!)...just make sure you take the baseplate off the body and don't get any remover on the flat black inner surface, I think that's painted.

I'm sure you took the obvious step of doing this with the baseplate off and away from the camera...

One tip that often works with stuff like this is to GENTLY heat it. You can use a hair dryer, but keep your hands near/on what you're heating so that you can monitor the temperature so you don't overheat it, or you won't need to use solvents to dissolve the paint, you'll flake it off with (too) hot air.

I would only use 3m adhesive remover its solvent free and citrus based, spay on clean cloth first then use cloth on camera! buy this at homedepot or art supply store or a pro paint store-art store.
