LEICA M8, 1st GOLDEN TICKET!!!

Sean,
If you would just get off the "this thread is a hoax" bit, maybe you would be able to sit back, read, and enjoy the thread.

Seal has no obligation to talk to you personally to convince you of who he is. He originally came on to the site and was going to remain anonymous so that he could have pleasant conversations about the M8 from a hands on prospective but that pleasantness went right out the window from your posts, and he got caught up in the fight and ended up spilling the beans on who he was.

Jorge, the guy who runs this great website, who has been very pleasant throughout this ordeal, just had about a 30 minute phone call with Seal earlier this morning where they talked about photography and other things. In fact Jorge is going to help Seal install a photo uploading program on his website so that he can start uploading photos more regularly. The current system is too difficult to use as it was built a LONG time ago. Here are the pictures he put up this morning, but now as part of the site.

You had an arrogant accusational tone in your posts on the board that did not come across well. Seal has a love of photography and wanted to share it with other like minded people. If you had been a little more pleasant on this board, perhaps we all could have learned a little more about the M8 camera instead of wasting time fighting.

So can we end the question now of whether Asender has the camera or not, and let hiim share his experiences with the other people on this board who are interested?

That would be so great if you could just let that happen.

Thanks,

Charles

PS. I am one of Seal's best friends.. and I allowed myself to get sucked into this thread as well... if you have any more issues, feel free to PM me. And let's let this thread get back to discussing the M8 and other cameras.

Charles,

Two parts to this response.

1) I first posted on this thread long after Charlie had announced himself as Seal. He was challenged by some from the beginning but I was not part of the conversation early on. Reread the thread and you'll see that. I became suspicious when he claimed that Lightroom did not support the M8.

Many of us were suspicious in part, I think, because there are plenty of con artists on the web. I apparently, was the last holdout and the toughest sceptic to convert this time.

2) Thanks for mentioning that Seal had spoken to Jorge. I just spoke with Jorge for awhile and he's convinced that Ascender is who he claims to be. If Jorge is convinced, I am now convinced.

Therefore....I apologize to Seal for doubting his identity and suspecting a hoax. Apparently I was wrong and this sceptic is now converted. Several things raised my suspicions and I did not like the idea of someone trying to con the list and make fools of Jorge and others. That's the sum total of my past concerns about the thread.

Cheers,

Sean

Ah, the saga is over.

OK, cameras back in hand folks. Bring um to your eye and shoot um as you see fit.

Good on you Sean!

Good on you Sean!

Good for you. Now maybe this forum can welcome "Charles" and keep him engaged as a member and colleague.

And Lo !, there was peace upon the forum and the forum was calm.

Interesting that identity and the ability to hide it can be at once a strength and a weakness of the medium.

I've been out taking pictures! It'll be good to see some of Seal's and / or Sean's when they are able to post em.

32 pages and all of nine days later, finally this epic is done. Atleast nobody's reputations were overly questioned, and nobody lost eyes.

I too am interested in seeing the M8 galleries filled.

I'm also very glad that this has been sorted and I think Sean has handled his apology with grace.

I am a little concerned that Seal's posts as ascender/charlie will attract extra attention in future and I do believe that he was genuinely trying to avoid that exact problem until provoked!

I hope he and Sean can make peace with each other and communicate throught this forum in an appropriately friendly manner. They both appear to me to be very talanted, precise individuals with strong ethical drives and they just had an unfortunate clash!

:)

i was a little suspicious of how pissy ascender got about sean and some of us being doubtful. sure, strangers might know who you are in meatspace, but it's a different story on the internet. confirming one's identity is important in this case because celebrities get special treatment. who wants to suck up to a nobody?

let the legitimate sucking up commence. :D

now shake and make up you two.

Well, we can't live in a bubble. New people show up and stir the pot. I really do not believe that Sean was trying to stir up trouble or felt that someone else was stealing his thunder. There are a couple of other professionals who show up here and are testing the M8 as well. I can recognize that Sean never degraded into name calling and did not try to air a disagreement in public but PM'd his doubts as a good member of this forum is encouraged to do.

As for Charlie, it is completely natural for someone to lash out if they feel that their integrity and truthfulness is being brought into doubt. The idea that we all shake hands and go back to discussing the camera is a very good one IMHO.

...he insulted a member, accused him of lying...

kind of like what you are doing here and now?

joe

Just pointing out what I feel happened. It's my humble opinion. What's wrong with that?

Or perhaps you would prefer all of us to just be mindless "yes" men to your point of view. The thread speaks for itself and I doubt I'm the only one that has come to this conclusion. Obviously we disagree...is that a problem?

Quid pro quo...maybe you need to take a look in a mirror.

that's your best reply?

stick your tongue out at me?

and you ignored the rest of my comment.
how do you condone behaviour ifrom yourself that you call others on?

ok, well then, while i'm looking into a mirror maybe you'd like to work on an apology to any you called a liar?

i'm not into yes men steve but i'm not about to be bullied by the likes of you either.

Bullied? How so? Please clarify because I don't see it. Who's the moderator here? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

I don't buy it and I don't think Charlie will buy it either.

I think someone childishly felt upstaged by someone else talking about the M8 and ended up revealing his true colors. That IMHO is what really happened.

That someone has been trying to dangle his imminent M8 review in front of us so that we would subscribe to his opinions (which I was going to do before but no longer) and then Charlie swept in like a tornado and stole his thunder.

In the process of trying to defend his monopoly, he insulted a member, accused him of lying and tried to make the rest of us feel like fools for believing charlie. Ironically though, we now know who was the real fool.

You all can flame me all you want but I just couldn't sit here and listen to all this fictional excuse making and the let's just play nice now BS.

The moral...Be careful where you crap, lest you end up stepping in it yourself.

None of that is true but you're welcome to your opinion. You actually don't know me from Adam and haven't been discussing things with me here on RFF for the past two years. If you did, you'd know better than to draw those conclusions.

BTW, many people have already reviewed the M8 and written about it, some on this forum. Ascender didn't upstage anyone or anything. My objections have nothing to do with that stuff. I just suspected a hoax, nothing more. There's nothing that Seal said about the camera that hasn't been public knowledge for some time now.

And this isn't insulting? Talk about hypocrisy. Are you implying that I am a child? Should I call you dad?

what i'd like is for you to take some personal responsibilty, see what you have done (behaviour wise) and own up to it.
but i don't expect that to happen.

so, have a nice night.

I think the moderators should close this thread.

Now that it has come to some closure that seems like a good idea. It was closed but then it was re-opened.

There are, and will be, people on this forum who don't know me very well. They cannot or will not understand why I challenged Ascender. (Or, more specifically, why I stayed on that train after most people had gotten off. <G>) They'll rail at me as they think is justified but eventually, hopefully, they'll get back to talking about cameras and photography - which is supposedly the reason we're here. Till then, I guess, we wait for them to wind down and move on. If they need me to be the villain of the week - so be it. It will all pass with time.

Ok . Due to the popularity of this thread and the fact that it draws people to it, I am reopening it. Please keep it civil.

I suggest we not only keep it civil but we have a little respect for our recently departed member. If, after his tour is complete, he wants to share with us his experiences with his new camera, I would be interested in his comments. But lets focus on the M8 and photography.
