what i'd like is for you to take some personal responsibilty, see what you have done (behaviour wise) and own up to it.
but i don't expect that to happen.

I will concede that my original post was perhaps a little heated and I have since removed it but I don't think that it was out of place or out of context and here's why...

1. Sean did upset and insult Ascender and other forum members. A fact which I'm sure Sean will admit to. He may not have intended to do so and perhaps did have the best intentions in mind but if people felt wronged then there is some level of culpability on his part. It was wrong to accuse Ascender of being a liar and it was wrong to make others feel inept for believing that Ascender was really who he said he was. When I wrote the previous post I felt that the latter part hadn't yet been properly addressed.

2. The reasoning for what happened was that it was for our protection. Again, that may have been geniunely well intentioned, but you can also quite easily see it as being insulting and demeaning. To protect someone implies that you have greater wisdom and know what's best for him/her and clearly this was not the case here. Also, from what I can tell, most (if not all) of us are grown ADULTS enjoying RF photography and sharing ideas, tips, opinions, etc. on this great site that Jorge has created. We are not children and we do not need to be protected. End of story.

Lastly, I think Sean is a good guy and hopefully Ascender will give him a second chance as well. Hopefully we all learned a little from this thread ...not just about the M8 but about ourselves as well (myself definitely included). The only way for us to learn is for people to tell us the truth when we have been wrong...that's all I was trying to do. A single voice of opposition is worth more than a thousand cries of praise.

Seems like everyone got into it! I also don't see how someone's opinion could be seen as an insult.

I think Sean did a fine job as a single voice (his opinion) given the evidence he had. His reviews (to me) are some of the best around, in my opinion, due to their straight-forward nature. I never get the feeling he's hiding anything. He tells you his views, why he feels the way he does about lenses, and never over-generalizes his conclusions. The dude seems straight-up to me.....

Thanks Jorge... :)

Sometimes that testosterone just gets the better of me...Dr. David Banner like.

Yes...back to the M8 and photography!

Wow this is such an insignificant issue. Who cares whether Ascender is actually Seal or not, and why would Sean care if someone is offended by what he said? And why would anyone care about the bickering between Ascender and Sean?

So much fuss about nothing. At least argue about some superficial issue on the M8 or something!

Why do you have to insult the M8? How dare you say it has an "issue"!

(Yes, I know, I'm continuing the nonsense)

So why even mention it then. Like I said...let's get back to the M8 and photography.

You mean like how you keep saying the M8 is no better than a 20D. Different people fuss about different things.

Let's just agree to disagree and move on...

This is a cut n paste of the email that Sean never wrote.

...BTW, I'm planning to interview the real Seal this fall about the M8.

Sean

Did people forget this? Is Sean really going to interview Seal?

I'm sorry this is off topic, but I find it the funniest part of this whole thread. I would love to be a fly on the wall at that meeting.

Hey, I'm willing to cop to being a bit starstruck. It would be interesting enough to run into someone on an online forum you already know from another context, to begin with -- there is something inherently even more interesting about someone who is regularly in the news, especially if you're a music fan.

On a more human level, I appreciate Charlie's (and I'll call him Charlie since that's what he's going by here) willingness to share information, especially since it sounds like he knows what he's talking about. I found his posts quite informative. Even if I had no idea who Charlie was, I'd hope he comes back and continues to contribute.

Charlie loves photography, and the new M8 is very exciting for a lot of people including him. This thread got crazy, I think, because people are understandably skeptical about many things they read on the internet, whether it's about a new camera or about someone's identity. As a result, there was an unfortunate misunderstanding and a bit of nastiness. I think we're all past that now. Sean is more skeptical than most, and that's actually a very good quality for someone who reviews equipment. If I were about to buy this camera, I would definitely pay to read Sean's review. Because it's Leica's first attempt at a digital M, my big worry would be that it's another expensive but weak product like the Kodak 14N or the Contax N. But early impressions, including Charlie's and Sean's and others', are very favorable so far and that's great to hear. I hope it will be a great success. I'm eager to see the upcoming review on luminous-landscape.com too.

The problem being - at the moment there isn't enough to talk about regarding the M8. Just wait till next week. And please guys, read my posts ( the very few there are on this unimportant subject), I'm not for or against anybody's identity. I just don't care....
I agree. Sheez, really. I mean, really.

Somebody in the unique position to talk about it, and the headline is whether it's Jack or Jake discussing it?? I thought that hyperhorse was already long beaten, dead and gone, and on its way to meet its breadmaker.

Like some of us say, "borrón y cuenta nueva"?

...

So, who's got an M8? Pony up them pictures...

Okay, can we all say this together: "Why is this thread still alive?" ?
Please?

Because you went to it and posted to it five days after the last post?
