Folks, i wonder if anyone could help me out.. in doing research a week or so ago i was sure i discovered a thread either on here or somewhere where they talked of a discussion taking place between the M8 and the canon 1ds Mk II.. I'm sure it said it was on LUG or similar..
I've tried googling for it, and searching through the LUG mailing lists archive and i can't find anything about it at all.
I've seen nikon d200 and canon 5d comparisons but would be interested in seeing any more.
If anyone has any other links to comparsion shots/tests between the M8 and any other cameras I'd appreciate that as well.
Cheers

true.. and i'm a big fan of dpreview's M8 test images... I just wondered if anyone else had come across this discussion and could point it out to me. Cheers though.

wow, yeah i assume so... the discussion referenced LUG but he must have been mistaken, i'm not that clued in on all the different Leica places out there.
Cheers... any other comparisons as i asked originally would be good, i should dig up the few links that i've seen.. dpreview's m8 review directly covers d200, and canon 5d.
Now if only leica announced an option in new firmware to use 14bit raw instead of the 8bit ones I think it'd be about perfect. Referencing this page i found the other day

While I love my M8 images, they do not compare to the images from my 1Ds II, not do I expect them to. They are more comparable to my 1D mark IIn, although noise is better controlled by the Canon from ISO 640 up, but again, that was expected.
I bought the M8 for being able to shoot a rangefinder digital, not for pixel peeping, so I love it.

I have an M8 and use the 28/2 asph with it. I also have the ancient 1D and over the weekend got the EOS 28/1.8 for it. Since the crop factor is the same I couldn't help but take a series of shots to compare. All I can say is the M8 has a size and weight advantage.

I have to chime in here as I currently have both an M8 and a 1D Mk II. The M8's sensor compares very favorably to the 1DMk2 however I find the quality of the glass on the M8 (even just a CV lens which is what I have) to out resolve similar Canon glass. That, and the M8's lack of a AA filter, make for super-sharp images (assuming I get the focus right - can't blame the camera like I used to on the 1DMk2).

In regards to the Canon 35/1.4L vs Leica 35/1.4 ASPH, I find the Canon possibly a touch better, but don't tell anyone I said that!
