Guys, can you advise on which type of Leica magnifier: 1.25 or 1.4 should I buy for my M7 with 0.85 viewfinder to use it with 75/1.4 Summilux?

thank you in advance,

regards,
Alex

I use the 1.4X magnifier on my 0.72 MP when I use my 75mm Summilux. Perfect fit too. The magnifier enlarges the viewfinder to the point where the 75mm lens become dominant. The 1.4 finder also works quite well with a 90mm lens. No comment on a 0.85 M camera, I've never used one.

I'd suggest that you try very hard to get your hands on one of each to try, especially if you wear glasses.

I've owned both, and find the 1.25x to be quite usable, but the 1.4x too much like staring into a long tunnel. Other folks like the 1.4x just fine. I suspect that it's rather like those framelines wide out at the edges of a viewfinder: Some people can use them comfortably, other can hardly detect them. Try for yourself, to be sure.

I second JRG. I use the 1.25x with the .85 VF for 90 & 135, the 75 lines are fine for me alone in the .85- I've not tried a 1.4X either. Only drawback to these devices is the jab in the eye I get when I forget it is on the camera.
