Anybody dealing with macro photography?
I am just wondering if there is any lenses other than macro-elmar 90mm for leica m mount or LTM?
How good is it compared to SLR macro photography? Is it better or is it cumbersome?
thanks,
Aykut

Hi Aykut,
With a Leica screw mount, you can use some close focusing accessory as SOOKY or NOOKY for use of a collapsible Summicron and/or Elmar 5cm.
Also the NOOKY-HESUM for use of Hektor or Summar 5cm.
Let's better call it "close photography", as macro is very close (taken with a bellows usually).Anybody dealing with macro photography?

There's a 65mm Elmar in M mount that was designed to work on the Visoflex. Add a bellows and go closer than the 13" near focus distance.
I've had excellent results using a 50mm Componon enlarging lens and visoflex for macro photos.

90 4.0 elmar original, 90 2.8 viso lens, 135 4.5 Hector or Elmar 65 elmar, black version is better, 25 Summar, 12 Summar, 85 Summar . All have suitable short focus mounts for mounting on a viso and adapters for bellows work. They all work fine. The problem is finding the bit and pieces.

I was considering a set with the adapter and angle finder. It's easier to just buy a cheapy SLR/DSLR and macro lens than the 90mm macro. More reach, less money, and through the lens convenience.

I'd think of the 90 Macro M lens as a 90mm lens with a shorter minimum focus distance than other 90's instead of a macro lens. It's more for details - the kind you can see with your unaided eye. Pictures from it aren't magnified so much that they draw attention to themselves like photography at 1:1 or more can do.
I have one and it's great. I wanted a 90 for my M, wanted something that was small and focussed closer than 1m. It's great. The adapter lets you get a bit closer. Nice for flower type shots, etc.
If you want serious macro, just get an SLR for the reasons above.
On the other hand, if you want a bit more reach than your other RF lenses give you, want a great 90mm, and don't want to lug around an SLR in addition to your RF to achieve that, the 90mm macro is a great lens. It's a perfect travel lens - it's small and really extends your range - want to get some detail on some wood work or something like that? The 90 fits the bill. Want to see a fly's eyes? Go with the SLR.
