Personally, I think the loss of the 45 degree rewind knob is lamentable, both from a practical and from an aesthetic point of view, but I realize some people are quite happy with the knob.
In any case, that's what a' la carte is for, and if I decided to get an MP it would be fully customized 🙂

I had an M7, my first Leica, after a little while I really didn't like it anymore, sold it to get an MP, haven't looked back since. I've bought and sold many cameras, but this could be the one to have cured my GAS 🙂

Having went through most M bodies i'm fairly confident in saying the MP is very much worth it.
I had an M7 previously and loved it thoroughly, perhaps if budget was no issue i'd get another.
Things like cameras are always relevant until no one uses them anymore.

If I was seriously into film, I'd have to have a MP. To me, it is the ultimate Leica.

I did exactly the same. However, recent unresolved problems with one m2, and the rangefinder of another drifting out of alignment, and the settling down of things at Kodak mean I'm going to get myself another MP at the end of the month, but this time chrome. Infact, I might get 2 😀

I would certainly put down some cash for an M7 or MP with an improved finder along the lines of the ZM. As things stand the current MP doest really improve on the M6 that much to shell out the extra $$$ IMO.

The ultimate Leica, is the one you have with you, when you step out of your door, and it certainly is not an MP. The M7(s) have become my second skin by now. The MP is sitting on a shelf looking pretty... Are they relevant? Only as much as film is relevant. Is the film relevant? - In B&W, the question should actually be reversed: is the digital relevant?

the mp is not too different from the m6, just more magic. hey, it´s the mp! and still relevant, of course. what else could one want in 35mm, filmwise?

I've got a chrome MP. It was £2500 new And for me it was well worth it. It's grown in my affections and is now equal to my silver ZI. Lovely camera. They, together, are my favourites.
I've been through a bit of heart searching in the last few weeks and find that black and white film is still what interests me photographically.

The MP is a completely relevant and beautiful camera. Relevance in Leica is kind of a weird thing, because alot of us are using Leicas that are 50+ yrs old. So, with that, the film M's are almost entirely relevant, no matter their year of production. In my opinion, the cameras that have any threat of becoming irrelevant are the digital M's. If people are still shooting M8's in 50 years, maybe I'll change my opinion, but I'd be shocked.
I own an M7 and 2 MPs (black and silver). I also owned the M9, but as I mentioned above, to me the only cameras that start to lack relevance are the digital M's, and with that I sold my M9. To be totally honest, I loved the M9 and the files it created were beautiful. However, I found that most of my photos were converted in post in some ways to emulate film, so the decision came down to the reasons I shot the M9, most notably being the ability to change ISO on the fly and more or less "unlimited" frames. As I look back on the M9, I think I would have known about the MM, as I would have scooped that up in a heartbeat!!!
Anyway, the M7 and MP are both awesome cameras. The M7 is a little more niche to me, because I tend to use it mostly in lower light or variable light type shooting as it has the AE which can be useful when you don' t want to think as much and just shoot. However, when I'm just out during the day, I love taking an MP or M6 (.58 for 35mm lines). Film will always be more relevant to me than digital...
