Leica MP - Second Hand Price, How much?

Scratches on the viewfinder and rangefinder window are functional damage, not cosmetic. I hope it works for you, but I could make that finder flare very easily in the store, which it shouldn't do.

I would be sceptical at buying a analog camera in 2008. In a few years they are worth 'nothing'. Unless you do your own B/W darkroom work as some here do. Even then, a well worn MP has a low value. Anything above 1,000 $ sounds a lot to me. For a mint version, possibly the double.

Myself? I bought a MP - mint - for 20,000 NOK (4,000 $) two years ago. I regret it today. From now on I will be buying only digital gear - and wide angle lenses that goes with a 1,33 crop factor for my M8.

no... things doesn't work that way... analog cameras are fully mechanical and depends on external factors such as film evolution whereas digital is self-sufficient with alot less mechanical parts. And as we all know down history, no single digital camera can withstand time. like computer chips, once technology moves on, it will be left behind and render worthless. I don't think if I were to give you a windows 3.1 for free now, you will like to use it? no?

I dare to say your m8 will not hold its value as well as your mp down the road unless if you decide to change its "core" years down - the sensor that is. which I also believe can fetch you a new camera or two. analog watches with moving parts will always be pricier than those cheap casio watches.

dude, since when has polaroid became a standard format??? please don't compare a duck to a chicken here.

a good example. japanese made fm2. how much is it selling still? a hundred odd or 2 in mint condition.... what about the first few "state of the art" digital camera that gives you 3.4 mp? how much are they fetching now?

Hi Everybody,

It's my very first post here. I recently came across a Leica MP - Black Color ( the latest model from Leica ) in a Camera Shop specialising in Vintage and Leica cameras.

This Leica MP is obviously second hand and its cosmetic condition is quite worn out, I would personally rate its cosmetic condition to be 6 out of 10.

It's not really a problem for me, I'd rather have a camera that works as required than one which looks like new and shiny. And I actually love the worn out look of this Leica MP.

The main reason for this post is according to You, how much do You think that it's worth?!

Shane I saw that MP shortly before you purchased it. It is the current model. I have dealt with that camera shop for some time also and I am sure that they will support you well. The camera is in fact apparently little used, however the previous owner has attempted to wear the paint artificially so that it no longer looked new. An instant well worn Leica, if you like. Mechanically, optically and electrically it should be just fine (and a superb tool for the purist). The price has been adjusted accordingly. Without the distressed finish you would have easily paid 1000 more. Go ahead and shoot it a lot and don't worry about the cosmetics.

Yeah that's right, the people working there are honest, friendly and knowledgeable. I personally trust them since I've been dealing with them for three years now, I never had any problems, I would add that this kind of camera shop and people working there is quite rare in this World.

I agree that this Leica MP would have certainly cost much more if the cosmetic condition was not that worn out.

Wow it amazes me that the previous owner actually "rubbed-down" his MP on purpose.

Are Leica's becoming fashion accessories? Are brassed M's the new "faded jeans"?

Yeah Naos, it also amazes me that the original owner did that to this Leica MP, but You never know what was exactly in his mind when he bought it.

The funny thing that I've noticed though is that Rich People sometimes buys stuffs that they don't really need but they buy expensive stuffs to use as fashion accessories or to show how wealthy they are. I might be wrong on that but it's just my personal observations that I've found out.

It would not be surprising for me to find out later that Someone who can afford it would buy Leica stuffs just for show. Cheers !!!

Congrats on a beautiful camera. If I had to keep only one of my cameras it would be the MP.
