Leica M's - Black chrome, black paint

agreed. that is a lovely finish, much nicer to my eye than the "shiny" enamel on the new MPs. but i kinda like the stickiness of the shiny enamel. it seems to grip well.

Back in the sixties some photographers started covering the chrome with Scotch Black Photographic Masking Tape. It's thicker than regular masking tape so in offers some padding. Peel it off and you still have virgin chrome.

The biggest failing of using a black camera to be less obvious? Hang a bag from your shoulder, a trinity of black M bodies sporting 21, 35, and 90mm lenses together with an SLR and 180/2.8 combo and it's really hard to walk about and not be spotted.

Acting like carrying a camera and taking pictures is a perfectly normal everyday part of your life is 90% of the battle, and a lot cheaper than special cameras.

Agreed. Down at the Eastern Market in Detroit, a photog named Frank shoots doc/PJ style with a 4x5 speed graphic and a gossen lunasix 3 around his neck. He is wonderfully seamless in the environment, I would say disregarded by all. Can't have much to do with the camera. It's all in his attitude. the guy's as much a fixture as the truck farmers or anyone else. d**n cool.

Clean it? No way! The dirt and grunge is a layer by layer historical record of the people who've handled the camera and the environments it's experienced. Unlike simple brassing it contains a scientific record of DNA, dust, and pollen left behind. "Gene Smith used this very camera in Korea and I can prove it!"

Don't worry. My cameras are all kosher. After all, with a rabbi for a son I have little choice. He wouldn't let me photograph him otherwise. The Leica CL is for photographing goats and cows (dairy), the Minolta Autocord for naked chicks and road kill (meat), another Leica for stoned out rockers and fellow photographers, and the cruddiest looking Leica of all is reserved for political events. That leaves one M body for???? The Bessa L is parve.

As for "current girlfriend" the position is open. I can't seem to find one in user condition that I can afford on Social Security.

Well at least I got the girls and the road kill. I am humbled.
