Leica LTM Leica of 53-54 vintage, repair

As many of you know, I am Leica challenged. I don't own one and don't anticipate I ever will.

But my questions is for a friend of a friend (sounds fishy, right? But true). A colleague at work has a friend who really likes Pentax SLR film cameras, but recently came into a Leica from a relative. He has told my colleague it was made in 1953/54. I am guessing that makes it screw mount? If not forgive my ignorance.

Anyway, this person now has the camera with two or three lenses, and wants the camera serviced so he can try it out. I told my colleague, who thought I was Leica savvy, I would try to find out. So the question is, who along the eastern part of the USA is the best at repair? That would be quality of work, speed of return, and price.

The M3 came out in 1954, so it could be either IIIF, IIIG or M3.

If it is an M3, the best fit to your criteria is Sherry Krauter in Campbell Hall, NY. Her email is krauter@warwick.net

Sherry works on Leica thread-mount cameras, too. She is tops. But if economy is important, I use John Maddox at L&J Camera Repair. His number is (864) 297-6931. John has rebuilt two IIIcs for me, one of which required new shutter curtains. And he will soon be getting my new (to Me) 1944 IIIc! It will require new curtains as well.
