Sorry if this one has already been covered, but who can do repaints on "M"
bodies?

I really like the look of the Grey Hammertone and have an M2 that I'd like to
paint in this finish.

Any information would be great!!

Thanks,

Scott

Shintaro in Japan and Peter Grisaffi at CRR-Luton in the UK can do this. Peter is one of the best Leica repair and restore people on the planet in my opinion. He black painted and restored an M2-R for me a few years ago that looks like it just came from Solms. Shintaro also does a good job, but it is a sideline business for him, so the turnaround may not be what you are looking for.

Avoid Shintaro like the plague--too many negatives here and on the LUG. 'Hate to badmouth anyone whom I haven't used but also hate worse to see someone get burned too.

Gonna run you around $500. They'll give you an exact figure if you email them.

Check the link in my last post. It is about half way down. Prices start at £325 and a discount is given if the camera requires any servicing at the time. I will let you know how much a complete overhaul and black paint job on an M3 is shortly. 😉

How much does Peter actually charge? Can someone give me a pricefigure?

Is Shintaro still accepting jobs? I emailed him a couple of times in the past month and never heard back.

Ray,
If you put Shintaro into the search, it comes up with quite a few threads including an earlier one you started. Last I heard Jaap was still waitng for his

Scott,

Here are pics of my M3 painted by Shintaro in a thick "rough hewn" black paint.

I did not deal with him directly as this came to me from a friend who got it on ebay. However, I have seen pics of a blue hammertone paint M2 done by Shintaro (it was on eBay about 2 years ago) and it was stunning. I hear he is well into his 70s or older and so his apparent lack of communication may be due to illness or non-computer skills or simply a language barrier. I believe in giving benefit of the doubt, but perhaps it may be easier for you to go elsewhere. But I am very glad I have my Shintaro-painted M3 because the workmanship is exquisite.

Shintaro turned around my camera in around three months, which was exactly what he estimated at the outset. I am sorry to hear jaapv had problems - I sent Shintaro cash and I'm sure it would have been very easy to scam me had he wanted. (I do rate Peter at CRR, although I haven't seen his paint jobs in person, nor seen anyone compare them with original Leica BP.) As it was, I got back this...
