Actually, there is a definite advantage to using a color capable camera for black and white photos: It enables the simulation of contrast filters in post processing.

forgive me but what exactly makes this shot nice? I don't really get in the face snapshots on the street with no narrative.

Isn't it self-explanatory? A lovely style-conscious woman carrying a Saks Fifth Avenue shopping bag and playing with her hair, possibly thinking about going to her hairdresser. It's a wonderful shot!

I still don't see it. To me it doesn't invoke any emotion. I wouldn't call her style conscious, she's wearing a plain black tank top while everyone else in the frame wears bright yellows and blues. Visually I'm more drawn to the woman in the yellow coat over the woman carrying handbags. The moment isn't unique. I can go to yorkville or bloor street and take many of these same shots. The expression on her face doesn't seem pleasurable and the lighting flattens her chin.
These are some reasons why I can't see why the image would be "good". There are many technical flaws that don't support a narrative. I think it relies too heavily on the subjects personal details. Which is fine if you like people watching. Heck I've been known to people watch a time or two but is it worth photographing ordinary people doing ordinary things? Not really.
Again I don't mean to single anyone out or come across in a negative sense but there is so much I see online that gets a lot of attention for reasons unknown to me.

Photography is subjective and you have to come to terms wit that fact that people are going to like something that you do not. Perhaps you believe too much in your opinion not allowing for other's opnions?

He lost me when he wrote: "And I trust and enjoy it more than any other camera I’ve owned. Yes, even more than my iPhone." - it is a different kind of photographer then me who enjoys shooting with any smartphone, be it Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Sony.
BTW, he doesn't state which version of the iPhone he is using, unclear therefore is which "iPhone is an unbeatable tool".....

Going under water ... all shot through 4 to 6 inches of poly carbonate, so that dirt is not on the lens 😉. And strange color fringing is also not usual for the Q😀

I am at peace with people having differing taste to myself, but still, it's a pretty boring photograph haha
I'm definitely not on board with the whole 'firing off random shots of people in the street' thing. They pretty much all look the same on flickr.
But just to make sure I'm clear, I do understand that other people will enjoy looking at them :angel:

As the starter of this thread, I am very sorry I have been so inactive! I kinda forgot about it. 😱
The Q is by far the best digital camera I have ever owned, but still, I regretfully have to tell you, I just recently sold it. Maybe some day in the future I will buy another one. From a self-amusement factor, I still enjoy rangefinders the most. By selling the Q at this time, I could afford to buy a 35mm Summicron lens and a Fuji X70.
So, I leave you with an overprocessed photo of a man soaking in the sea, and I humbly bow out.
