About ten years ago, Leica had a promotion that for a short while (like a couple of months) you could send in your Barnack camera and they would send it to Germany for a complete CLA. I jumped at the chance because I was having some issues with my iiif. Got the camera back after a month or two (I'm in the States) and was disappointed. I was hoping they would change that little silvered mirrored beamsplitter because the rangefinder contrast was very weak (they hadn't) and I found out the technician reassembled the camera wrong, which made the lens flange warp. I had to disassemble the camera partway and reassemble it in the correct order to straighten everything out (thanks Gus Lazzari). So the whole experience was not great. I now have Don Goldberg (DAG) service my Barnack Leica's and he's kept them running in top form.

Just my experience.

Best,

Youxin Ye has serviced many of my Leica screwmount cameras, Nicca, and Leotax- including changing the beamsplitter and new shutter curtains.

I had my IIIb there about a year ago. They exchanged the shutter curtain, cleaned the rangefinder and gave it a general overhaul. You probably receive an excerpt from the archive when it was first sold, a real photograph related to Leica and your camera and a letter about heritage and so 🙂.

Thanks all for your feedback. I use Youxin too (he is local to me) but I was just curious if this was an option; i.e., sending a Barnack to Leica.

For some reason, I had images of a shiny new-like sparkling clean camera coming back from Wetzlar after the Leitz elves did their magic. 🙂

While researching, I came across this web site with detailed pics of a IIIa disassembly with lots of close-up pics if its intricate innards. Very interesting.
