Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
This is it, didn't take long to find but it doesn't mention the camera in question...

Hello Michael (Dralowid)

Sorry about the delay, still not feeling A1, but tried to put some photos of my camera on the thread. I will try to put some more when I can, perhaps in a week's time, when I hope I will be feeling better.

So all you need to find now is a black Leitz SBOOI finder that can fit directly over the lens. I think Erik has such a thing but have never come across one myself.

I have never seen an original, but have had Alan Starkie paint 3 of them. SBOOI are fabulous and even better in black. :)

Couldn't resist and added second converted black Barnack to the small stable.
Correct naming is II to II syn I believe

Can one of the experts check me on this one. Don't have it in hand yet.

1932 ii that was converted to a iiia.
Based on the L shaped diopter adjustment I think that means it is a pre-war conversion?
I keep flip flopping on if it is nickel or chrome. I think, or at least hope, that it is nickel. The lugs are definitely chrome. From what I read I think nickel would have been original in 1932 but everything could have been changed when converted.

The Elmar front looks nickel but the barrel seems more chrome. Don't think it has a serial number on it. Already ordered a shutter guard for it.

Thanks,

Shawn

Shawn,

Pre war conversion II to III (IIIa has 1/1000).

Wait till you have it in your hand re nickel/chrome question. Lugs would most likely have come with the conversion to III which has lugs as standard.

Nice camera!

Thanks for the correction. Missed the iii vs iiia, didn’t even realize that was a thing. Can’t wait to put some film through it. Supposed to be serviced and ready to go.

Fingers crossed for nickel.....

Shawn
