I just saw two very strange lenses both in LTM.
Leica-Sonnar 1:1,5 f=5,8cm. Nr. 1407204. T (in red).
Sonnar 1:1,5 f=6 cm. Nr. 140717
I assume these are old USSR forgeries?
Was was with them a Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm f/2.0 Sonnar with a Contax mount.
Worth 20 dollars for a flyer or save the money for Beer?

There was a thread recently at ZICG about the 5.8cm and 6cm Sonnars. Marc James Small hypothesizes that the 5.8cm Sonnar might be Zeiss parts assembled by CZJ people at the behest of the Soviets, while others believe the 5.8cm lenses to be "outright Soviet fabrications." The 6cm Sonnar might be authentic if the serial number were 3,xxx,xxx. Marc is a member here; Stephan (photovdz) could also weigh in more authoritatively than I.
In the group of three lenses you have two probable fakes. For no other reason I would wonder about the Contax Sonnar as well.

forgeries or not... Who knows... I would love to see if thoses lenses work... to take pictures...
worth the money because they are bizarre and period products... but the history is unknown...

if someone could have one studied in detail , real focal length, type of helicoid, usability...
Since we seem to agree that lenses in LTM were made in workshops around the factory, may be they are prototypes or tests, or something like that...

This might not be a forgery.I once had a 50 mm Tessar in Leica mount (scale focus). The lens
had belonged to one of the German intelligence agencies,and was purchased from the office
for enemy property in Oslo in 45 or 46.

A truly beat-up 60mm Sonnar went for over $500 on eBay in the last couple of weeks.
John, was that $20 for each lens, or for all three?

I`d throw some money at them, on Kevin`s site these are KRAZY money and I have heard of the f1.5/58mm being used by someone before with good results, they are for pretty sure postwar Russian Zone bulit lenses,
(POSSIBLE PROTOTYPES) and just as good as Jena "wartime" at least in the optics dept. maybe not so much in the barrels, all three lenses are easy worth more than $100
question is are they calibrated to LTM properly? that would be the only concern I`d have, just so they work
I`d be interested in the f2 Sonnar for a "hacked" lens, I want to work one into a Summar/Elmar mount for one of my IIIC`s and if you get them I`d like to see how they perform, might be interesting

Well I got out bid at 260.00 I pushed up to 255 from 75 when I was out bid there and it got too rich for the unknowns. :bang:
Well the money I saved will go to an M6.

The 58 or 60mm Sonnars are not considered as made by Zeiss.
Either post-war Russian Zeiss copies or post-communism Russian or Ukrainian fakes.
