Please don't take things out of context...read the entire response in the same paragraph. He did NOT say the XV was a mistake as he was talking about the silly marketing. He went to say the XV was a great camera. I do take issue with any "boss"saying it wasn't his idea.. He should take responsibility for everything including unfortunate marketing.

Yes, I read the whole piece (in french original) and I am aware that he did not speak about the camera itself, but about the marketing campaign. So no Leica bashing intended! (edited my post to underline that the marketing campaign was meant)

The camera seems quite good to me, but not my cup of tea.

As for the fact that he pushes off the responsibility for the campaign... well you're right, he should take the responsibility as the Owner! Typical corporate reaction - something turns out great --> my idea, an epic fail --> it was someone else's idea.

Interesting how he criticizes Sony for driving prices down by not controlling RX1 distribution - implying that Leica maintains high prices via controlled distribution and waiting lists.

IMO, the main difference between Leica pricing and Fuji pricing is . . .

The demand for Leica products is very inelastic with regard to price -
there is a strong market of people who are going to buy Leica whatever
they cost and however long they have to wait.

The demand for Fuji products is quite elastic with regrad to price - the
market locates Fuji products in a very competitive segment with other
products.

(Aside: Ironically, I think a lot of people feel that today, Leica's biggest competitor is
Fuji. I don't think that's correct - most people who buy Fuji-X products were not going to
cough up the $$$ for the Leica anyway.)

Well, there's no doubting it right...

I think Leica just hit a homerun with the new M, that's it.

It's basically all the camera you could ever wish for, besides being expensive and has some
shortcomings like any other cameras too.

When Fuji goes Fullframe, they will catch up in a second though.

Yeah, I agree. Leica cannot compete the same way as Fuji. Fuji is not making a high end luxury camera by any means. It doesn't need to be either.
