Homage to Anton F. Baumann:

If you have a copy of Baumann's The Leica Book In Color (1938) you might recognize this view in NYC, photographed by him about 76 years ago in the same spot. Quite easily replicated from memory, although his was shot later in the morning and with more direct sunshine.

Given the conditions I had, this worked a bit better for me:

IIIf, Summaron 2.8, Portra 160

I knew the first plate in the book was also made in the area, since it also includes the RCA Building (now the GE Building) in the background. After some searching (and follow-up using Google street view) I finally found the spot where that shot was made. Alas, the church in the foreground is long gone, replaced by a much larger office/retail building.

Anyway… just a bit of Foto Fun in the big city!

JLN, I see you are shooting Tri-X at EI 200 rather than Kodak's optimistic ISO of 400.
Smart feller.

It's a pleasure to expose paper long enough for a true black through thinnest Base+Fog areas without degrading highlights. The good shadow detail is a welcome bonus.

Yes, if there are enough light I like to expose it @200-320 and thats pretty common I think (to get deeper shadows) ie. expose for the Shadows - Develop for the Highlights
