Leica Summicron 50 collapsible.

Bringing this nice thread back to ask one question.



So, it seems to be logical to try Summicron collapsible now on my M4-2, I guess, to progress 🙂.
I spend some time to find and read about this version one. From what I was able to read to my surprise only once, so far, someone at Leica blog has mentioned about using of color filters with Summicron. I'm using them as well on J-3 and CV 35 2.5.
Is there something specific about collapsible Summicron which prevents use of filters? Or it is more due to scan-process method to prevail these days instead of analog print or something in the modern films to make filters less important?

I always use a UV or 1a filter, to protect the lens.
I have a nice set of B/W filters, yellow,yellow-green and red.
I also have the fancy Polaroid filter with hood.
I have discovered via digital and Photoshop
, that a green filter is really useful!

I think the only reason some people don't use filters in the Collapsible is because of flare. I got my Summicron Collapsible about 2 months ago. It has haze that was cleaned, but not completely. It took nice pictures even with flare, the image was not degraded what so ever. It is becoming my favorite lens, so is my Summicron 50/2 DR. I love the curviture of field it gives images - character. The best thing I love about this lens is that with Tri-X and Rodinal it gives me images that seem to be "etched" on film. Wonderfully sharp with greaet character and low contrast. I use it on my Leica IIIF. I always use filters with it, not a problem...

These sure are nice photos! I had to decide whether to keep my 50/2 rigid, or collapsible. I had to go with the DR rigid, for it's close focus. (the collapsible is on sale now in the classifieds.)

It can get loose but can be tightened without a problem.

My copy seems to be fine on my M4-2 and Canon IVsb, but on digital, it front focus' a fair bit.

Eugene, does your digital have live view? Have you tried comparing rf focus with the live view?
