Eugene, does your digital have live view? Have you tried comparing rf focus with the live view?

Sadly not Lynn, It's the M8 so way before Leica had the sense to put one in. I'll check with my friend's A7 soon. My trusted repairer is on holiday atm so just having to play the waiting game.

Leica Summicron 50 collapsible.

My Collapsible has a nasty scratch on the from element, big and deep, but I can't make it produce ugly flare no matter how hard I try 🙂 It is a present from my wife and (not only because of that) I love this lens so much. I should use it more often..

Mine has a gouge on the front element too - other than that it's beautiful, and the mark doesn't seem to affect photos at all.

On the screw mount forum, it almost plays second fiddle to the summitar for not having enough "character". The shots here are gorgeous

This was a collapsible 50mm f2.0 Summicron with a severely challenged front element. I had a friend "de-coat" it and surprisingly enough it became usable - after a fashion. Glare was increased and contrast dropped a bit - but sharpness remained fine.

Is there significant difference(s) between a typical collapsible cron and one with radioactive (thorium) glass other than the price?

Thanks a lot. As I am still quite new to film and photography in general I am not fixed on B&W or color and also no specific film yet. It's more like a mood decision. But I also have to say I like this lens with both color and B&W.
