I'm still not 100% sold on this lens. It vignettes more than my Summicron 35/2 ASPH at f/2 and the focus action is a lot heavier. I also prefer how the Summicron's hood locks into position and won't accidentally rotate. I need to straighten out the FLE's hood pretty much every time I take it out of the bag (I just leave the hood off now - problem solved). But its excellent performance wide open is undeniable. Both shots below were taken at f/1.4 on Neopan 400.

I love how it renders skin and colors. Also seems to be pretty flare resistant.

Just a quick snapshot of a little family gathering, but it was done with only available light and much of it coming from behind the subjects.

Aperture was F1.4 so field of focus is very shallow.

Mine had a pretty tight focusing mechanism when it was new out of the box but a few days of good use later, has become perfect with just the right amount of resistance. Absolutely no issues with the hood either, since the first minute I locked it into place - if your copy is still under warranty I'd suggest sending it off for adjustment

The focusing action of my copy is not faulty, just noticeably heavier than my Summicron 35mm ASPH which has a very light and smooth focus action. The focus action of my FLE is actually lighter and smoother than other FLE copies I've handled. As for the hood, its just the design. My problem would be solved if the hood "clicked" into place like a Zeiss bayonet style hood.
