I'd like a FF M-mount camera with a hybrid finder like the X-100. Weather sealed but made of less expensive materials than the current M, with no optical RF and manufactured in Japan. That would reduce the cost and make it "mini". Make it in black and silver with the lovely Leica script on top to class it up. We have the technology... is this too much to ask?

The zoom lens in the teaser looks suspiciously like a Panasonic-made Lumix lens, from the style of the focus and zoom ring.

Well, everyone has these expectations which will surly be dashed by Leica. What you will get is a non full frame body with a fixed lens or maybe interchangeable lenses for $3000 to $4000 USD more or less. Build quality may be the same as Fuji only the Fuji will be a MUCH better camera for the money hands down. I came to this conclusion last year at the Photo Expo Plus when I had a chance to fiddle with the new Leica stuff and then had a chance to play with all the Fuji cameras. What struck me is how close the feel of the X Pro was to the Leicas and how much better the rear LCD was compared to the new M. Image quality blew away my M8 and seemed better than the M9 , especially at ISO's past 1200. Recently I have been in a battle thinking about buying a new M, and recently had a chance to use my X-Pro 1 in the blast furnaces at the Bethlehem Steel plant in Bethlehem PA. The image quality left me speechless! Tones and detail were scary good! I was using the 18-55mm Fujinon Zoom and the 35mm f1.4. the only Leica lens used was a Noctilux with the Fuji M adapter. In every respect the Fuji lenses blew away EVERY Leica lens I have. It just does not get better than this! I have been shooting Leica since 1989 and I have come to this conclusion. So here we are talking about this new mini M. I am yawning at this with a giggle, for I know that Fuji also has some great stuff up its sleeve this year, and that is VERY exciting to me!

Well for accuracies sake… for twice of the Fuji and 35/1.4 price you could get a 6D and 35L as you mention.
But that's OK Jaapv. It's OK to disregard the Fuji as a point and shoot.
Hell, the Leica S2 is a point and shoot also

Thank God this is only a rumor. For one, it cannot be an "M" unless it uses the M lenses, and so far it does not seem that this one does.
Leica called the compact film camera the "CM," for "Compact M," so i think they are not restricting themselves with the usage of the "M" label. Unfortunately. It ought to stand for something, but in this era, marketing supercedes all.
Having been in advertising/marketing for a while, I can't help but wonder what the Leica folks are thinking now. If it's real, this storm of commentary cannot be encouraging. If it's a fake, I know i'd be champing at the bit to issue a statement to that effect. Not sure what they gain by allowing this type of highly negative false speculation. Then again, there are many in marketing who believe there's no such thing as 'bad publicity.'
I disagree with one of the recent comments that this will be 'jewelry' for some well-heeled photographer. It doesn't actually 'look expensive.' It looks like just another $600 plastic digicam for amateurs. The only people it will impress with its red dot are other Leica photogs, and how many of them will you actually encounter when sporting this thing around your neck? Even so, people who have enough money to buy 'real' Leica gear ought to be more intelligent than to be impressed by someone who just spent $3500 on something that will underperform versus a $1000 NEX kit.

That is fine I have nothing against point and shoots; I just bought a new old stock X1 for 650 Euro net. Now that is a decent price, quite nice camera within its limitations too. The point is that I am all for people buying the camera that takes their fancy but balk at unrealistic claims, as image quality nowadays is so good that any of the top dozen cameras -or even more- will produce prints that are nearly indistinguishable up to A3+. As for lenses, well, I think that the opinion of the poster I responded to is rather ermmm... unique, despite the undoubted good quality of the Fuji offerings.Well for accuracies sake… for twice of the Fuji and 35/1.4 price you could get a 6D and 35L as you mention.

Regarding price, you are right, my remark applies rather to the RX1, a more serious runner in the high-end league. Apologies to Fuji fans, those are realistically priced.

Doesn't look promising, guess this confirms it
I am now slightly more hopeful. It looks taller than the X2. There's no reason for that if all it amounts to is an X2 with a fixed zoom lens, right?

Here's a new teaser of the Mini-M. Source of the photo is from the Leica Store Singapore page: http://cl.ly/PTBC
From the looks of it, it may be just a taller X2 with a larger sensor, perhaps like that of the M8/8.2 (APS-C crop).

Well, it is the first fixed lens zoom APS-C mirrorless in this size range.
daveleo
what?
I was predicting a Digilux-2 with an APS sensor and a zoom range or speed
compromise, but if this is true, that is a HUGE compromise in speed
from the original D2.
It's it gets priced at $2000US, they stand a chance at selling some of these.
€ 2500 ? ? . . . yikes!

This is from a Phoblographer article in line with the upcoming Mini M:
One of our Facebook followers tipped us off to a leak by a German retailer. Leica has been teasing a new Mini M for a little while now, and Leica Boutique Retailer Foto Henny Hoogeveen says (according to Google Translate) that they’ll have stock on June 11th of this year. They also call the new camera the X Vario: which is perfectly in line with what Leica Rumors has been stating the new camera will be called.

This will only drive people further into denial. I don't think people will even believe it when Leica announces it. Wait for the thread calling the June 11 announcement an elaborate marketing scheme for the REAL camera, which will be announced later.
