Leica teases "Mini M"

This will only drive people further into denial. I don't think people will even believe it when Leica announces it. Wait for the thread calling the June 11 announcement an elaborate marketing scheme for the REAL camera, which will be announced later.

I think the OP of the photo just made it all up. Although Leica is not Apple in terms of marketing and new products, they're just as secretive and teasing. I still believe that the Mini M is an APS-C fixed-lens camera.

You need to have sales before you can profit...

Oh, this will sell ok in its boutique store. They know they can sell this to non-photographers who like luxury brands and have no idea what a "fast" lens is. I would imagine this was a relatively cheap camera to produce for Leica.

The photoshop work in some of these 'leaked' shots is just awful. Like the shot with the lug out of the camera. It's like they didn't even try to make it convincing.

:D

I continue to wait to see what Leica announces on June 11.

If it is the X Vario that's been pictured (and I suspect that's a strong possibility), it's not a camera to my taste (I rarely want zoom lenses at all) but I think it will be a fine camera.

The lens is a bit slow on max aperture at the long end in the specs posted, but I suspect the brief for this camera was compactness over speed. And if it has the same Sony sensor as the X2, clean results at ISO 6400 and 12500 ameliorate some of the lack of lens speed. Still, I would be more interested if the long end of the zoom is f/4; f/6.3 is limiting.

I like the fact that the illustrations show a zoom ring and a focusing ring. A focusing ring like that would be very welcome on the X2, much better than the thumbwheel even if it does the same thing (run a servo focus motor).

What will be, will be. This camera does not influence my future camera buying plans at all, unless it is the mythical "Leica CL Digital" ... ;-)

In what universe does mini mean "bigger than basically anything we've ever made except our hulking Cylon R9"...

Compactness? Obviously Leica Digital has never heard of the concept.

Pathetic.

Wow, I can't believe they'd release it with a lens that slow. Who is going to buy this thing?

Perhaps Leica is not targeting the hairy photographer demographic at all. As they are a boutique brand , Leica is very likely pitching this product at the power dressing, urban and urbane, successful career women with high disposable incomes and predilection for prestige brand names.

The Leica R8 and R9 are definitely not small, and it was not designed for small hands. Besides how ugly it is, it is one of the few cameras that felt the most natural and comfortable in my hands.

That tangent aside, I really hope their fumbling with their Mini M teasing is just that: fumbling. I wouldn't get my hopes up, as at least in the past six years their marketing campaigns have been rather clumsy or not thoroughly thought-out.

I wonder what would happen if they hired an Apple/Samsung-grade marketing firm?

Personally, I think the R8/9 are the most beautiful of all SLRs, period. Very similar in form and size to the S and S2.

Your own opinion is only your own opinion. Judgmental as you folks may be, that is your privilege, not "truth", not "right", just an opinion. As is mine.

I can't wait to own an R9 in the future and your opinion will not influence me at all.

The last 3 Nikons I owned were larger and uglier than anything Leica has ever produced....and THAT is my opinion.
