Leica to FSU instead?

And now, back to our regularly scheduled thread...

The reason I asked the original question was that I had the oportunity to purchase a couple of bargain Leica items, one being a 90mm f4 Elmar (early '50s version). As it turns out, the rangefinder cam is very skinny, and will slip behind the cam follower on a Zorki 1D while mounting it. I have read of some folks adjusting the cam follower so that it just clears the lens mount in order to alleviate this. I think I'll just leave well enough alone, and keep the Zorki all FSU.

It is my speculation that the cam follower in an FSU camera is designed to maintain coupling as a lens is focused closer than 0.9m. That's about where a Leica style cam follower hits the threads of the lens and loses RF coupling. The finger style design allows it to go slightly deeper. Some of the J-8's (double-helical design) focus closer than 0.9m. My Zorki 3M used with the Nikkor 5cm F2 (thick cam, and close-focus) maintains coupling to closer distances than a Leica.
