If I purchased a never used M lens from a private party with the passport card included, can I still use it or do I have to have an original receipt from the dealer where it was purchased?
Thanks

Technically you need an original receipt from an authorized dealer. But I have heard of individuals sending in a warranty card under similar circumstances and Leica has honored the warranty.
But I would handle it differently. PM me for more…
Keep in mind though unless you need warranty coverage, the lens is worth a bit more with the original Passport Warranty card intact.
Last year my - bought used - MP had been serviced by Leica (Japan) under warranty. I had the original receipt and passport warranty card (issued to the name of the former owner and prolonged to the 5 year time span) but was only requested to mail a copy of the passport together with the camera.
Passports are transferable, they have a space for new owner details, a receipt is not needed, leica will have the details of the registered product. I hope this helps.

Bill is correct, which is why one has to resort to subterfuge if the item is sold on but is still under warranty. Leica is peculiar in that it has different rules for different countries but I understand the company is trying to "unify" it's post-sale policies.
